Barrow Boy has shown the most of the four with runs under their belts, having separated a Coventry Stakes contender and a more experienced rival over course and distance three weeks ago.

He ran green when first pressed, before finishing strongly, and the form was boosted when the fourth horse finished second at Leopardstown on Friday evening.

Watch the newcomers in the market, with a keen eye on Hi Corbett Court from the in-form Paddy Twomey, €220,000 Wootton Bassett colt Tradewinds, Robson De Aguiar’s 100,000gns yearling Mudyrk and Ballydoyle’s Tantardini, a No Nay Never colt out of three-time Group 1 winner Roly Poly.

SELECTION: BARROW BOY

Next Best: Tantardini

Happy Henry’s lack of success in 17 starts is a concern but his recent second at Sligo, a track that didn’t work in favour of his late challenge, was admirable.

Bullet Bourbon is another looking for a maiden win and her second-placed effort on her three-year-old return puts her in the mix, with her subsequent disappointment disregarded after a slow start. She’s also likely to prefer this trip, whereas Dawn Approach filly Imnotleavinyou – runner-up on her last two starts – may find this too sharp. Four-time course winner Step Back In Time may need the run on her first start of the season.

SELECTION: HAPPY HENRY

Next Best: Bullet Bourbon

In spite of her name, Nevermindtherain might prefer today’s good ground to the soft going she encountered on debut at Cork last month. One of three well-backed for the race, the No Nay Never filly didn’t produce the required turn of foot close home, but is expected to improve for that effort.

Paddy Twomey’s newcomer Big Negotiator looks the most likely danger. Bought by Connor King as a yearling for 30,000gns, the Havana Grey filly misses her breeze-up sale entry after being sold privately, suggesting she’s held in high esteem.

Cleodolinda is another newcomer with obvious appeal, with the January-bred bay being a full-sister to two listed-winning juveniles.

SELECTION: BIG NEGOTIATOR

First-time cheekpieces are hoped to bring Namiid back to his best following a four-length third on reappearance at Dundalk – his first start as a gelding.

A game second over course and distance was one of his best performances last year - that form, combined with new headgear, boosts confidence that he can justify his place as the highest-rated in this field.

Fifteen-race maiden Reposado would be another deserving winner, having bumped into a progressive filly on his penultimate start, and gone close in another Curragh sprint handicap since.

Grand Cuvee was sent off 7/2 on debut last month and the well-related Starspangledbanner filly is likely to produce a better effort here. Ennoble, Keogie and Xerling are others worth considering based on previous promise.

SELECTION: NAMIID

Next Best: Reposado

3.32 Round O Handicap 5f

Ballyhane Stakes winner Howd’yadoit looks fairly-rated at 91, based on his fine fourth to the more experienced Keke when having his first run of the season last month.

Lethimfly looks likely to make up for missing most of last season, having finished second to the progressive Buddy Batt in March – his first start since the previous June, and is expected to strip fitter today.

Midnight Dusk is another three-year-old who looks capable of winning off his current mark following a fine fifth in a premier handicap last weekend, but may find this comes a bit soon.

The likeable Cuban Grey posted a rare disappointing effort last time out, but given his usual consistency, Patrick McKenna’s sprinter is always worth considering.

SELECTION: HOWD’YADOIT

Next Best: Lethimfly

Asakir’s form reads well – the well-backed favourite he beat last time out in a 10-furlong maiden went on to win next time, and they finished over four lengths clear of the remainder. That showing built on a debut third behind a colt now rated 101.

Though he didn’t look like stopping at Leopardstown, Asakir’s pedigree doesn’t guarantee he’ll get this trip – his dam won over 10 furlongs and his sire’s best win came over a mile and a half.

Some may have thought New Zealand didn’t stay 10 furlongs on his seasonal reappearance at Epsom last month, but today’s first-time blinkers suggest that the son of Albany Stakes heroine Different League might be lacking the required enthusiasm.

All that being said, both have shown more class than the rest of today’s contenders. Preference is for Asakir and his more likeable attitude, with the hope that he gets the trip.

SELECTION: ASAKIR

This looks a perfect opportunity for Madbadanddangerous to land a big pot, as Noel Meade’s game gelding races off just 4lb higher than when getting within half a length of the progressive Cape Cod at Leopardstown on his seasonal return.

Jamestown wasn’t treated too harshly either for his promising reappearance, when narrowly denied by a stablemate of the selection who was recording back-to-back wins. This step up in trip may bring further improvement from the Ulysses gelding.

Now Maybe, an 87-rated maiden, completes the shortlist following two placed efforts in good company.

With a rating of 87, Genchev should be more than capable of winning this. A promising juvenile, he may have needed the run when finishing second over course and distance last month – his first start of the season and first since being gelded.

The winner of that race potentially looks smart, as do the two horses that Reynir chased home at Fairyhouse. It was the Aga Khan homebred’s second start, but he still doesn’t look the finished product and should go closer today.

Andy Oliver’s newcomer Tanzanite Diamond is a half-brother to two Group 1 performers but stablemate Strike De Vega appears to be the yard’s top chance based on jockey bookings. Mr Ballynonty is another debutante with an attractive pedigree and is worth a market check.

SELECTION: GENCHEV
