NAVAN - SATURDAY

1:55 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF MEDIAN AUCTION MAIDEN 5F 182YDS

Plenty of top connections are well represented here and it is the Ger Lyons-trained Waipu Cove that makes the most appeal of those with racecourse experience. The son of Equiano shaped quite a bit better than the result in a five-furlong maiden at this track a fortnight ago, making notable late gains under a considerate ride. He can be expected to come on significantly for that and could well improve enough to win. Of the newcomers, the Michael O’Callaghan-trained Now Or Never is out of a half-sister to Dream Ahead and realised £42,000 at the breeze-up sale at Doncaster last month. Market support for her would be interesting.

Selection: WAIPU COVE

2:30 NAVAN WELCOMES OWNERS MAIDEN 5F 182YDS

A really competitive sprint maiden and marginal preference is given to the Michael O’Callaghan-trained Show Me Love. The daughter of Showcasing showed plenty of pace on her debut at Dundalk in November and with this shorter trip being very likely to suit, she should run very well. The pick of her rivals could be the David Marnane-trained Laharde, as this drop in trip very much promises to suit him.

Selection: SHOW ME LOVE

A typically big-field sprint handicap for this track and the one that makes the most appeal is the Harry Rogers-trained Calm Bay. The nine-year-old is a real five-furlong specialist and with him seeming to be gradually coming into form this season, today might be the day to catch him. Coincidentally, he won over this course and distance just under a year ago from the same stall that he breaks from in this contest (15) and a bold bid should be forthcoming from him. Another five-furlong specialist that should run well is the Pat Flynn-trained Little Sweetheart.

An interesting handicap and marginal preference is given to the John McConnell-trained Get Out Of Jail. The son of Authorized did plenty wrong, but still ran out the easy winner on his handicap debut at Gowran Park last time. While he has been raised 10lb, he remains open to improvement and could well follow up in this. The best of the rest could be the Willie McCreery-trained Bell Of The Ball. The five-year-old landed a bit of a touch when winning at Ballinrobe in August and made a fair return over an inadequate trip at Naas last time. This course and distance should suit her well and she should run well.

John Oxx has his team in good form and he could well have the answer to this in the shape of Ripples Effect. The son of Sea The Stars made a winning debut at Limerick in April and acquitted himself very well in a valuable handicap at the Curragh last weekend, shaping as if this step up in trip would very much suit. He could well improve significantly and will be tough to beat. Of the more exposed runners, the Noel Dooly-trained Coolfighter ran well at the Curragh last weekend and should produce another big effort.

Selection: RIPPLES EFFECT

This race is full of potential improvers and a chance is taken on the Aidan O’Brien-trained Best Kept Secret. The son of Duke Of Marmalade has been shaping well in recent starts, most notably on his handicap debut over a mile at Dundalk last time. That run suggests that this longer trip will very much suit and he could well improve enough to prevail despite his poor draw. Of his rivals, the Adrian Keatley-trained Nice Vintage should appreciate the return to this sounder surface and looks to be a solid proposition.

5:25 TRIMGATE STREET MAIDEN 1M 2F

A tricky maiden to finish up on and a chance is taken on the fitness of the Willie McCreery-trained Estrenar. The son of Dandy Man made a really promising debut at Tipperary in August, but was found to be lame after disappointing on his only subsequent start at Gowran Park. Provided he is ready to go on her return to action, he could well run a very big race. Of the newcomers, the Dermot Weld-trained New Agenda catches the eye being a half-brother to his high-class stable mate Tested.

Selection: ESTRENAR
