2.30 Irish EBF Median Sires
Series Fillies Maiden 7f
Silver Kiss has emerged with credit from her first two starts in smart maidens and she wouldn’t be winning out of turn now switching to median company for Dermot Weld. The runner-up from her Galway maiden was second in a Cork listed event since, while the winner from her debut won the Ballyhane and runner-up finished second in the Lowther.
Green Nature is a Cracksman newcomer for Joseph O’Brien who cost €160,000 and is out of a mare with pace. She could be a lovely prospect. Star Glory’s experience should stand to her, while Maeda Matsu ran a cracker to be second in the Ballyhane on debut and must be respected. Miss Twilight has also shown maiden-winning potential.
SELECTION: SILVER KISS
Next best: Green Nature
3.00 Matchbook Exchange Irish EBF Fillies Maiden 6f
Having changed hands for €360,000 at the breeze-up sales, Formous is of obvious interest in this for Joseph O’Brien. She’s bred to have speed, being by Starman and out of an unraced half-sister to Group 1 winner Fairyland.
Alfresco cost €250,000 as a yearling and is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Prague, so must be strongly considered on her debut for Donnacha O’Brien. She should be sharp enough for six furlongs as a daughter of No Nay Never.
Red Primrose, Argentarius, Film Set and Timeless Tale all hold reasonable claims too.
SELECTION: FORMOUS
Next best: Alfresco
3.30 Irish EBF Auction Series Maiden 6f
Natalia Lupini gave a highly positive mention to Miss Cashman Hooke in a recent edition of The Big Interview in The Irish Field and she is worth paying close attention to on her debut. Billy Lee takes the ride on this Starspangledbanner filly, who is out of a maiden-winning Galileo mare (stamina on that side of the family).
Zoar is the obvious form choice, after finishing second to Man’s Best Friend on debut here last month, and sets a good standard for Donnacha O’Brien.
Roeillaun has an experience edge for Noel Meade and took a step in the right direction when second at the Curragh last week. Newcomers Eyeconic and Catch The Boss should be watched in the market.
SELECTION: MISS CASHMAN HOOKE
Next best: Zoar
4.00 Tally-Ho Stud Irish EBF
Ballyogan Stakes (Group 3) 6f
Given the usual British dominance in Irish sprints, preference in Naas’ feature is for the two visiting raiders, First Instinct and Soul Love. William Haggas’ recent York Group 3 second, beaten only a neck by the talented Flora Of Bermuda when having Soul Love behind in third, gets the nod. She is 3lb better off with today’s rival now too.
In fairness, Soul Love showed a liking for this place when winning a listed event here last time. Havana Anna is down in grade and back against her own sex, which should see her highly competitive once again.
SELECTION: FIRST INSTINCT
Next best: Soul Love
4.30 Big Evs At Tally-Ho
Handicap 5f
Willie McCreery saddled a 1-2 in a sprint handicap here three weeks ago and the same pair are back to do battle again. Dandy Land was raised 7lb for winning there, but the in-form Paddy Harnett couldn’t claim on that occasion and can take 3lb off now. That’s bound to help offset a big weight for a lightly raced four-year-old, who has begun to find her feet as a sprinter this season.
Stablemate Steel Magnolia only went up 2lb for last time and has the assistance of Billy Lee. She isn’t the most frequent of winners but is consistent.
Aurora Nova isn’t out of the equation if putting her best foot forward, while Simmering Seas ran well in defeat at Cork last time.
SELECTION: DANDY LAND
Next best: Steel Magnolia
5.00 Hartes Group Apprentice Handicap 1m 3f
There was a flicker of promise in what Eastern Peace showed when fifth to Leopardstown specialist Dark Viper last month and he takes a sizeable class drop here. The step back up in distance should play to his strengths, on the evidence of his Dundalk win over just half a furlong shorter. Reese Holohan is a good booking for a race of this nature.
Signor Ferrari is drawn wide, which won’t be ideal, but the return to this type of galloping track should be to his liking and Pat Murphy’s horses have been running well. Derry Lad is another to consider in an open affair.
SELECTION: EASTERN PEACE
Next best: Signor Ferrari
5.30 TRM Bioactive Energy Boost Handicap 1m 2f 110yd
Akecheta never managed to get involved from behind at Gowran last time over seven furlongs, but this track and longer trip could help her take advantage of an attractive-looking mark. Kevin Coleman has also been amongst the winners of late and this mare has cheekpieces reapplied now.
This is a nice drop in class for Port Of Spain, who could be the class angle of the race. Diamond Exchange comes here in top form following a recent win around here, while Guardian Of Realm is a fascinating stable switcher from Ger Lyons to Denis Hogan after a 210,000gns sale. Minella Rockett adds even further depth to a strong event on the back of his Galway Festival handicap success. He’s in a good place at present and could progress again with 7lb claimed off his back.
SELECTION: AKECHETA
Next best: Minella Rockett
