1.56 Royal Ascot Trials At Naas Rated Race 1m
Seven runners, all maiden winners, make this a pretty tidy contest. Despite a strong challenge from Ballydoyle, Latin America could have enough in the locker to follow up his recent Navan success over 10 furlongs. He was impressive on that occasion, admittedly in weaker company than this, and Johnny Murtagh’s string continues to be in good form. This Gleneagles colt has the potential to get sharper with more racing.
Ryan Moore’s preference for Shaftesbury Avenue over Port Ferdinand and Accredited is an obvious positive sign for the Navan winner’s chances. The runner-up from his mile maiden success has won since in good style. Course-and-distance premier handicap winner Bobby McGee is clearly in good heart and has a clear experience edge, but needs to keep improving.
SELECTION: LATIN AMERICA

2.26 ALTO Equine Building
Solutions Handicap 1m
Desperately unlucky Curragh runner-up Red Charlie is 3lb higher than when flashing home after a troubled passage four weeks ago. However, that rise won’t be enough to stop him if he’s able to prove as effective on better ground in this higher grade. Andy Slattery’s four-year-old has been on a real roll to start the season and it would be dangerous to suggest he’s reached his ceiling.
Far From Dandy ran a big race when second in the £75,000 Spring Mile Handicap at Doncaster in March and running a 1lb higher mark here, in calmer waters with Colin Keane booked, looks tempting.
SELECTION: RED CHARLIE
Next best: Far From Dandy
2.56 Coolmore Stud Blackbeard Race 5f
We’ll get a good idea of the rate at which some of these two-year-olds are improving here, given some of the key rivals have already clashed this season. Star Prospect powered home to beat What A Girl Wants by a length and a quarter over five furlongs at the Curragh four weeks ago.
Even though the winner is 3lb worse off now, the manner in which he finished out gave the impression he should have more to come - and he’s bred to be a smart juvenile, being a half-brother to last year’s Norfolk Stakes fourth Ameeq.
What A Girl Wants has the advantage of an extra run since, runner-up to the impressive Velozee in the Listed First Flier Stakes.
She finished well clear of Ballydoyle’s New Yorker (sent off 4/7 favourite) then, but Ryan Moore eased up on his mount once jinking slightly and the No Nay Never colt is better than that bare result reads. Pala Aurelia is a newcomer bred in the purple for Fozzy Stack.
SELECTION: STAR PROSPECT

3.26 Twydil/Clovelly Irish EBF Fillies Maiden 1m
Considering just how strong Joseph O’Brien has been in maidens to start the season, newcomer Mai Dahlia is of obvious interest under Dylan Browne McMonagle. The Too Darn Hot filly is a half-sister to the multiple listed and Group 3-placed Ameerat Jumaira (peak rating of 100).
Guardian Of Realm was knocking on the door in Dundalk maidens towards the back end of the year and her experience will stand to her in this. Solana Beach ran on strongly late on when a never-dangerous second at Gowran on debut last month. She’s a live player for the in-form Fozzy Stack. Willie McCreery’s New Bay newcomer Rebel Wave is worth watching closely.
SELECTION: MAI DAHLIA
Next best: Solana Beach
3.56 Owenstown Stud Stakes (Listed) 7f
Native Warrior is generally reliable, is operating over his best trip and sets the standard on ratings here, so looks the solid choice for Karl Burke and Jamie Spencer. He was only beaten half a length in a Saint-Cloud Group 3 over a mile on his comeback seven weeks ago, and he’s entitled to be sharper now.
Expanded is the standout danger. He’s got 2lb to find with the selection on official ratings but it was an encouraging enough reappearance when second to The Lion In Winter at Leopardstown last month, having had an interrupted season at three last year. King Cuan tries further after a sprint campaign, while East Hampton will be ready to pounce if the big players fail to run to their maximum.
SELECTION: NATIVE WARRIOR
Next best: Expanded
4.26 Coolmore Stud Irish EBF Fillies Sprint Stakes (Group 3) 6f
This race tends to be a key trial for the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot and it could well be again this year. Aidan O’Brien has won this with Meditate and Fairy Godmother in recent seasons, and Victorious looked a smart prospect when winning a maiden here 20 days ago on debut. The Wootton Bassett filly is from a smart family, albeit she arguably might have been expected to go off shorter than 100/30 on debut if held in the very highest regard.
Velozee is two from two for Paddy Twomey and ran out an impressive winner of the Listed First Flier Stakes at the Curragh 13 days ago. If as effective now trying six furlongs for the first time, there’s no reason why she shouldn’t be fighting this out. The imposing Maria Quiteria looked useful at Dundalk in March and remains of obvious interest.
SELECTION: VICTORIOUS
Next best: Velozee
4.56 Goffs Lacken Stakes (Group 3) 6f
Last year’s impressive Norfolk Stakes winner Charles Darwin takes his next step on the road to the Commonwealth Cup and ought to be tough to beat. Given he was returning from a 310-day absence, Blackbeard’s brother posted a pleasing comeback win at Navan three weeks ago.
Havana Anna is actually the top-rated runner in the line-up on 113 (3lb ahead of Charles Darwin) but her lack of a recent run must be a slight concern against race-sharp rivals.
Royal Bay Cen’s biggest dangers arguably didn’t fire on her Irish debut at Cork a fortnight ago, but she bolted up by nine lengths in the style of a filly who belongs at this level. If she can prove as effective on this drier ground than a quite testing surface last time, she’ll give herself an excellent chance at further blacktype.
SELECTION: CHARLES DARWIN
Next best: Royal Bay Cen
5.26 Sole Power Sprint Stakes (Listed) 5f
It was a taking performance from the likeable Keke to win a six-furlong handicap here off 97 last month, and he deserves this first shot at listed company (now rated a career-high 104). He’s proven just as effective at five furlongs in the past and comes here in good heart.
There is a chance, however, that Mission Central, who won the Listed Woodlands Stakes over course and distance 20 days ago, could be a young gun capable of climbing a grade higher than this. He’s battled hardened for a three-year-old and is the top-rated runner in here on 110.
Lady Iman didn’t sign off her season strongly last year but was impressive on this card 12 months ago, while it would be no surprise if we saw a totally different Ipanema Queen to last time when disappointing on unfavoured testing ground at Cork (beaten 5/4 favourite).
SELECTION: KEKE
Next best: Mission Central
