12.50 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF MARES BEGINNERS CHASE 2M

Uranna can make a successsful debut over fences. She won a Limerick maiden and a Sandown Listed contest last season and then ran with credit in better company, finishing her season with a creditable second to Whiteout at Punchestown. She has the capacity to make up into a useful chaser and an absence of 248 days isn’t a major concern. All You Need bolted up in a 2m handicap hurdle here in November when she scored off a mark of 115. She was unable to defy a 12lbs rise in the ratings when stepped up in grade at Navan next time and now she tries her hand over fences. She looks a significant threat to Uranna.

1.20 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF NOVICE CHASE 2M

A fascinating clash between two potentially top drawer novices and marginal preference is for Kitten Rock. Last season’s Champion Hurdle sixth ran out a comfortable winner of a Navan beginner’s chase two months ago. He should progress from that effort and has long looked like one that could go a very long way over fences. Similarly Shaneshill has the ability to do very well as a chaser. A Grade 2 winner and second in the Supreme Novices Hurdle last season, he readily disposed of the subsequent winner Walk To Freedom on his chasing bow at Thurles. On their hurdles ratings there is very little to choose between the pair and marginal preference is for Kitten Rock in a clash between two horses with genuine prospects of holding their own at the top level.

2.20 ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP AT NAAS MAIDEN HURDLE 2M

Hurry Henry can register his first success over jumps. This Cork bumper winner has run to quite a solid level on both his maiden hurdle starts, the latest of which saw him finish a 9l second to Bellshill at Cork. There is every reason to believe that he could do better still over hurdles and he is chosen ahead of Fairly Legal. The latter won his only start in points and made a solid start on the track when finishing third to Okotoks in a maiden at Cork in early November. He is entitled to improve while a line of form involving the runner-up that day, Nine Stiches, leaves him with something to find against Hurry Henry. Robin Thyme disappointed when odds-on for a Navan bumper last time. A return to the form that saw him finish third to Woodland Opera in a Leopardstown bumper last January gives him a major chance.

2.50 MARTINSTOWN OPPORTUNITY HANDICAP HURDLE (80-116) 2M

After running to quite a solid level on his last two outings Courageous Cry makes most appeal. He showed up well to be beaten just under 6l into third by Long House Island in a handicap at Thurles in November and he ran respectably in a significantly better race than this when sixth behind Ice Cold Soul at Leopardstown eight days ago. Vicangelome hasn’t run over hurdles for a year. He has been in reasonable form over fences this season as evidenced by a victory at Wexford in October. He could run well. Tudor City appealed as one that could do well over hurdles but has yet to make an impression. He is of distinct interest in his first handicap though and it will be intriguing to see how he fares against his elders. Furthermore a four-year-old did win this race last year.

SELECTION: COURAGEOUS CRY

3.20 PANORMAIC RESTAURANT AT NAAS HANDICAP CHASE 2M

Boher Call is 11lbs higher than when last successful. He has been running respectably without winning this season and he did shape a good deal better than the bare form of his 25l third to Nickname Exit at Navan last time would suggest. He is 12lbs better off with Rolling Rocket (when the latter’s mandatory penalty is taken into account) for an 8l beating over this course and distance in November. Rolling Rocket followed up that triumph at Punchestown on Thursday and he can be relied upon to play a leading role if turning out once again.

3.50 GO RACING IN KILDARE (PRO/AM) FLAT RACE 2M

The first four-year-old bumper of the season contains the usual selection of unknown quantities and Zaheer makes plenty of appeal. This Pivotal gelding is the first foal of a winning half-sister to the Triumph Hurdle hero Zaynar and multiple Grade 1 winner Zaidpour. Mulkear comes from last year’s winning stable and she is a Milan filly out of a half-sister to a French Group 3 winner and the high class jumpers Rigmarole and Fire Dragon. These might be the two to focus on.
