2.00 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF MAIDEN 7F
Cypress Creek is a full-brother to three winners, including Capri, winner of this year’s Irish Derby and St Leger. He certainly has plenty going for him on breeding, so has to be given serious consideration on his racecourse debut.
His stablemate, James Cook, is an equally well-bred individual, being a brother to Breeders Cup and Arc winner, Found. He has the services of Ryan Moore in the saddle so could well be the stable’s number one hope.
Selection: CYPRESS CREEK
Next Best: James Cook
2.30 C.L. & M.F. WELD PARK STAKES (GROUP 3) 7F
Mary Tudor comes into this race as a maiden but could be capable of shedding that tag in style. Just denied on her racecourse debut at Cork last month, she stepped up considerably when an excellent third in Group 2 company at the Curragh last time. This is an easier task now and she can gain her first success.
Sizzling faded to finish a close fourth in the May Hill at Doncaster last time but will appreciate the return to 7f here. The Ballydoyle filly looks the pick of her trainers trio of runners, especially with Ryan Moore remaining loyal. She looks a real live threat to the selection.
Selection: MARY TUDOR
Next best: Sizzling
3.00 LOUGHBROWN STAKES (GROUP 3) 2M
Renneti isn’t the most straightforward of horses but has plenty going for him here if getting away on terms. Often reluctant to race, the Mullins runner has plenty ability and will love both the 2m trip and testing conditions. If Pat Smullen can get him into a rhythm up front then he could easily lead from start to finish.
Wild Irish Rose has been steadily improving all season and could be good enough to take the second spot. The Ballydoyle trained filly started the year in handicaps but has progressed with each run and wasn’t disgraced in Group 2 class at Doncaster on her latest start.
Selection: RENNETTI
Next best: Wild Irish Rose
3.30 FORAN EQUINE IRISH EBF AUCTION RACE 6F
Would You Believe looked an exciting prospect when making a winning debut at the Curragh last month. Ger Lyon’s juvenile only just did enough but appeared to have a bit up his sleeve. He could be a very nice horse in the making so this looks a very wise move in pitching him in here to gain further experience. Longer term one would imagine he could prove better than the opposition he faces in this.
Swiss Cottage really caught the eye in two maidens before finding Group 2 class a bridge too far last time. He remains an exciting type who could yet fulfill that initial promise given more time.
Selection: WOULD YOU BELIEVE
Next best: Swiss Cottage
4.00 RENAISSANCE STAKES (Group 3) 6F
Quiet Reflection was a bitter disappointment on her only start this season but is afforded another chance now. The four-year-old may have found the firm ground at Haydock all against her; especially given that her best form has been with an ease in the ground. The UK raider has plenty to prove on her return to the track but, if anywhere near her best, then she should prove far too strong for these runners.
Alphabet lost her way a little in mid-season but bounced back to her very best when second at the Curragh last time. A maiden winner at this venue earlier in the campaign, she will appreciate the cut in the ground.
Selection: QUIET REFLECTION
Next best: Alphabet
4.30 JOE MCGRATH HANDICAP 5F
Maarek may yet have one final big day in the sun by taking this competitive sprint handicap. Although now in the twilight stages of a very successful career, the former Group 1-winning sprinter retains enough ability to be dangerous at this level. His biggest weakness his is tardiness from the stalls but if he can get away on a par then he should be finishing best of all on his favoured soft ground.
Magic Bear is the lightly raced young improver in the field but she disappointed at Tipperary last time so has something to prove. If there was an excuse for that run then she would be a very live contender.
Selection: MAAREK
Next best: Magic Bear
5.00 JUDDMONTE BERESFORD STAKES (GROUP 2) 1m
Saxon Warrior was a very easy winner on his debut at the Curragh last month and literally could be anything. He didn’t appear to be that strongly fancied on that occasion yet won with loads in hand so there is every chance that he has improved in the interim. Ryan Moore prefers him over the other Ballydoyle runners so that hint should be taken.
Kew Gardens finished ahead of some of these opposition when second in a Group 2 at Leopardstown last time so looks the chief danger to his stablemate.
Selection: SAXON WARRIOR
Next best: Kew Gardens
5.30 HOSPITALITY AT NAAS RACECOURSE HANDICAP 1M
Pincheck remains lightly raced for Jessica Harrington and should be involved in the finish here. A winner over course and distance in July, he went close at Roscommon next time over 10f. Off the track since that run, he will be suited to the drop back to a mile and has already shown his liking for the course.
Turbine has run some excellent races in defeat all season and would be a worthy winner. A tough, front-runner, who finds plenty for pressure, he won’t be easily passed up the long home straight.
Selection: PINCHECK
Next best: Turbine
