1.20 BETVICTOR MAIDEN HURDLE 2M

Lignou might be able to get off the mark at the third attempt. He was well beaten on his hurdling debut but showed much more last time when he finished a 5l fourth to Gardens Of Babylon and Surin at Punchestown. That pair franked the form in a winner’s event earlier this month and Lignou could progress further now that he is fitted with blinkers for the first time. Runrized is a notable newcomer to hurdling, he won over 10 furlongs at Durtal last April. Vitudurum looked as though he could progress into a nice dual purpose type in his three flat runs in the autumn.

As he goes in search of his third straight success Espoir D’Allen makes plenty of appeal. He returned to the substantial promise of his initial efforts over hurdles when winning here in November and he turned in a superb effort at Limerick last month when trouncing the very smart Stormy Ireland by 8l. He does have to concede 7lbs to his four rivals but he still looks hard to oppose. Tombstone ran his best race for some time to finish third to Sharjah in a Grade 1 at Leopardstown last month. He was beaten nearly 6l on that occasion and if he can replicate that form he looks capable of securing second position.

Selection: ESPOIR D’ALLEN

Chris’s Dream can make it two wins from as many starts over fences. He made a bright start as a chaser when winning over 2m 4f at Navan last month, accounting for the subsequent winners Gun Digger and Shady Operator. The ground here should be slightly slower than Navan which will undoubtedly suit this gelding and he will relish this trip as evidenced by his 64l triumph in a Grade 3 novice hurdle over this trip last season. Discorama might emerge as the biggest threat to Chris’s Dream. He turned in a pleasing effort to win a 2m 3f beginner’s chase at this track in November and then he was beaten just over 16l in a Drinmore Chase dominated by the subsequent Grade 1 winners Delta Work and Le Richebourg.

Envious Editor has shown more than enough to indicate that a maiden hurdle is within his grasp. He was just touched off by Rhinestone at this track a few months ago and he bounced back from a below par effort at Navan to chase home Eclair De Beaufeu in a Limerick maiden last month. The last-named has since given that form a boost with a taking success in a rated hurdle at Fairyhouse last week. Dream Conti looks a likely danger. He finished third to Tornado Flyer in a Punchestown maiden last month and then filled the same position when beaten just over 11l by Castlebawn West and Thursday’s winner The Big Dog over 2m 4f at Leopardstown. Empire Escape’s effort here before Christmas makes him an interesting contender.

A tentative vote goes to Geneva Barracks who was making his first appearance in almost a year when finishing a respectable fourth to Chatham Street Lad in a handicap hurdle at Cork early last month. The seven-year-old is entitled to have progressed from that run and he has a decent chance on the pick of his old form. Voices Of Spring caught the eye when fourth to Jetez at Leopardstown over Christmas where he finished well to be beaten just over 5 1/2l. The lightly weighted Uno Moment could be dangerous off two good runs in defeat. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he reversed Punchestown form with Free Ranger on revised terms.

Stowaway Forever is worth taking a chance on. He has yet to win a race but has more than enough ability to do so and form such as his third to Duca De Thaix in a decent 2m 1f handicap chase at Fairyhouse almost two months ago would give him an excellent chance. He is returning to a track where he has run a number of his best races. Stowaway Forever is chosen ahead of the hat-trick chasing Punches Cross who has gone up a stone in weights for a pair of 2m handicap chase wins. On a line through Arvico Bleu there is very little between him and Stowaway Forever.

An Fraoch Mor showed up well to be beaten just over 2l into fifth on debut. He could never quite work his way into a challenging position but offered plenty of encouragement and the step up to this trip should suit him well. He can deal with Latest Exhibition who was beaten 1/2l by Active Force in a Limerick bumper last month. He should be able to build on that initial effort and his rider’s seven pounds claim should aid his cause too. Braeside is respected off a solid debut second to Valdieu at Down Royal while Spoken For is a Fame And Glory grandson of the mare Be My Belle.
