12.50 INH STALLION OWNERS EBF MAIDEN HURDLE 2M
Mossbank may be good enough to make a successful debut over hurdles, in a race that shouldn’t take much winning. A bumper winner at Limerick on his only previous racecourse appearance, Gordon Elliott’s runner appears to be the number one choice of his powerful owner.
The likely testing ground will hold no fears for the five-year-old and he should prove up to the task, provided his jumping is adequate.
Turbojet was a beaten favourite at Down Royal last time but only just failed to land the odds. He had previously caught the eye in two similar races and has already proven that he is capable of winning his maiden.
The Authorized gelding can now call on his experience, an advantage he holds over most of this field.
SELECTION: MOSSBANK
Next Best: Turbojet
1.20 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF NOVICE CHASE 2M
American Tom faces his stiffest task to date in this four runner affair but literally could be anything and has to command maximum respect. Willie Mullins’ six-year-old remains very lightly raced and has only his fourth ever start this afternoon.
Third on his debut in France back in 2014, he made a winning start in Ireland when taking a maiden hurdle at Gowran Park a year later. He was then absent until winning on his chasing debut at Punchestown last month.
On that occasion he created a big impression, despite occasionally jumping out to his left.
It should suit him much better going the opposite direction now and he can continue to make up for lost time.
Some Plan is the veteran in the line up but has taken well to chasing and represents a real danger to the selection.
A high-class handicap hurdler when trained in Britain, he was an easy winner of a match race at Punchestown first time over fences and had yet to be asked for an effort when departing at Cheltenham last time.
While he lacks the scope for improvement of some of these, he has the proven class to get involved.
SELECTION: AMERICAN TOM
Next Best: Some Plan
2.20 EASTCOAST SEAFOOD & GOULDINGS HARDWARE HANDICAP CHASE 2M
Thecraicisninety is a speculative selection in what at first glance appears to be a wide open contest.
Many of these runners would be better racing over further and those that have form at the trip don’t look that well treated. Christy Roche’s horse made most of the running when easily landing his point-to-point at Dromahane in 2015. He won that contest by a distance and both the second and third have gone on to win races since then. After a promising racecourse debut at Roscommon in October last year, Thecraicisninety was well beaten when stepped up in trip. A keen going sort, he will be suited to dropping down to the minimum now and could be well handicapped.
Turn Over Sivola would dismiss this opposition with ease if putting in an accurate round of jumping. He was rated much higher when trained in the UK but jumped poorly on his Irish debut and now has questions to answer.
However, should connections be able to iron out his fencing, he would be thrown in in a race such as this.
SELECTION: THECRAICISNINETY
Next Best: Turn Over Sivola
2.50 MARTINSTOWN OPPORTUNITY HANDICAP HURDLE 2M
Like A Demon has been very consistent in recent starts and may finally get his head in front here.
The seven-year-old was somewhat unlucky in running when flashing home late over a similar trip at Punchestown last time and comes into this as a winner without a penalty.
Prior to that run he had been placed on his previous two outings. With rider J.J. Slevin in excellent form over the last few weeks, the horse will want for nothing in the saddle and can gain a deserved victory.
Rock On Rosie has been a fine servant to connections over the last few seasons and can again make her presence felt. Coming from off the pace in a big field will suit her ideally, although any further rain may not aid her cause. She remains on a fair mark at the present time and can prove the greatest threat to the Slevin runner.
SELECTION: LIKE A DEMON
Next Best: Rock On Rosie
3.20 RUSHES SUPERVALU EBF MARES BEGINNERS CHASE 2M
Slowmotion was easily the best of these over hurdles and should prove far superior if able to transfer that ability to chasing.
An impressive winner at Grade 2 level over hurdles last March, she found Grade 1 company a step too far at Punchestown but later finished runner-up in two Grade 3 races.
In between those two runs, she fell on her sole start over fences but it was early in the race, thus impossible to predict how she would have done. Connections are obviously pleased with her subsequent schooling as they are happy to allow her have another run over the larger obstacles and the hint should be taken.
Elusive Ivy was a gradual improver over hurdles last season and held her own in decent handicaps.
While she lacked the raw ability of the selection over flights, she is a capable mare in her own right and looks a danger here.
Similar to the O’Brien runner, she also comes into the race on the back of a fall on her only appearance over fences.
SELECTION: SLOWMOTION
Next Best: Elusive Ivy
3.50 TUCKMILL GALLERY (PRO-AM) IRISH NATIONAL HUNT FLAT RACE 2M
Cosmo’s Moon is a tentative selection in a race where form is thin on the ground. Most of these are making their first ever appearance on a racecourse, so it is difficult to make a strong case for anything.
However, the connections of the selection had an impressive winner of a similar race at Leopardstown over Christmas and later hinted that they had a few others which were in the same league. Any market support for the horse would be of interest, a remark that applies to the majority of this field.
Jamie Codd is an interesting booking for the McManus runner, Le Richebourg, so that one is another who commands respect. His stable did very well with similar types in this grade last season and won with a nice prospect over Christmas.
SELECTION: COSMO’S MOON
Next Best: Le Richebourg
