Blue Bolt: Standout filly on the European mile scene this summer; building on listed-winning comeback to strike in the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge at Royal Ascot, the Group 1 Falmouth at Newmarket and Group 1 Prix Rothschild at Deauville. Andrew Balding-trained four-year-old officially has at least 4lb to spare over the field here and she could simply be the class act of the race.
Carolina Jetstream: Only beaten a length by City Of Memphis when second in Group 2 company at the Curragh earlier this season, and a good listed second to Jagged Edge last time at Killarney, but overall profile makes her hard to fancy in this grade.
City Of Memphis: Four-year-old is lightly raced, with four wins from only five runs, and bids to continue a perfect season, after victories in conditions company, a Group 3 and a Group 2. Absent since May and likely trained specifically for this target, a race her trainer won with Pearls Galore in 2022. A clear career-best will be required, though, and is officially 12lb below the standard set by Blue Bolt. Could be ridden to give her the best chance at achieving Group 1 blacktype.
Duckadilly: Group 3 winner over seven furlongs here two starts ago was never able to land a blow from behind in Group 2 company at the Curragh since. Ground should suit her but looks up against it with a rating of 100.
Fallen Angel: Runner-up in this race in 2024 before winning the same prize last year. Five-time Group 1-winning mare dished out a good beating to Blue Bolt in the Sun Chariot last autumn, but it remains to be seen whether she is the same talent this term at the age of five. Only seen twice in 2026, well below her best on both occasions in Group 2 and listed company. Clear contender on her old form but needs to prove she’s still the force of old.
Meriden: Quite the achievement to get this filly here, having been rated 57 in late May when winning the first of five races on the bounce. No shame in finishing second to today’s rival Pivotal Attack in a Galway listed contest and couldn’t land a telling blow from off the pace in a nine-furlong Group 3 at the Curragh last time. This demands even more of her.
Pivotal Attack: Impressive Galway listed winner would have loved more rain to arrive. Looked a possible non-stayer at nine furlongs last time at the Curragh in a Group 3. Talented but this might just be a level above her ideal grade for now.
Precise: Top-class juvenile filly from last season has struck twice at the highest level in 2026, becoming a classic winner in the Irish 1000 Guineas and a Royal Ascot heroine in the Coronation Stakes. However, she has been busy, with this set to be her seventh Group 1 outing in just over four months.
Only a half length between her and Blue Bolt at Deauville two starts ago and drawn much lower than her now (stall one versus stall nine). Ryan Moore favours this filly over her stablemate.
True Love: This season’s Newmarket 1000 Guineas winner finished behind Precise in the Irish 1000 Guineas and Coronation Stakes when a solid second and third. Backed those runs up with another good second to Thesecretadversary in the Prix Jean Prat, though arguably looked as though her progress stalled a little when fifth in the Prix Maurice de Gheest last time (still only beaten a length and a quarter). Whether a stiff mile is really the trip that sees her at her best is a slight question mark too.
Conclusion
On one hand, a wide draw in stall nine of nine for Blue Boltmight be viewed as tricky, but at least it means that it should be difficult for her to get bottled up in traffic in a race that has turned tactical for high-profile runners at times.
She’s been on a real roll this season, the lack of significant rain is in her favour and she simply looks the best filly in the race. Precise obviously has the potential to give her another scare, but must find something extra to turn the tables.
