2.15 NEW YEARS DAY RACING AT FAIRYHOUSE - BOOK TODAY MAIDEN HURDLE 2M

Noel Meade could well have the winner in the shape of The Herds Garden. The son of Multiplex failed to win in six starts in bumpers, but he showed plenty of ability in finishing second on three occasions. Meade traditionally does very well at this time of year and it wouldn’t surprise to see his charge make a winning hurdling debut in this. Of those with solid hurdling form in the book, the Dermot McLoughlin-trained Some Drama makes the most appeal.

The bumper winners should be the ones to concentrate on and the Dessie Hughes-trained Sheamus looks to be the one to beat. The son of Definite Article has won bumpers at Kilbeggan and Galway and reportedly jumps well at home. He has the advantage of race fitness over a few of his main rivals and should prove tough to beat on his hurdling debut. His main rival is the Gordon Elliott-trained Fort Smith, with the five-year-old having won a bumper at Ballinrobe in May having already shown some promise over hurdles.

Selection: SHEAMUS

3.25 PREMIER JUMP RACING WEEKEND NOVEMBER 29TH-30TH BEGINNERS CHASE 2M

The Noel Meade-trained Prima Vista won’t get many better chances to belatedly get off the mark over fences. Once rated as high as 145 over hurdles, he has failed to win in 10 starts over fences, but he won’t need to return to anywhere near his best to win. His most interesting rival is perhaps his stable mate London Bridge, with the eight-year-old holding a rating of 125 over hurdles, but he didn’t show much on his chasing debut and return from over three years off at Sligo last time.

Very little form over fences to guide us here, but there are a couple of useful recruits to chasing, the most interesting being the Gordon Elliott-trained Pumped Up Kicks. The daughter of Flemensfirth has won two point-to-points and two handicap hurdles in the last year (now rated 118) and she is considered a chaser in the making. Trip and ground will suit and it wouldn’t surprise to see her make a winning chasing debut. The best of the rest looks to be the Mags Mullins-trained Ballychorus, as she is also rated 118 over hurdles and is also considered a chaser in the making.

A chance is taken on the Boots Madden-trained Mad For Road. The son of Galileo has yet to come good over hurdles, but he shaped quite well on his latest outing a Clonmel in June and market support for him could be considered very significant. Of the rest, the Homer Scott-trained Lindas Choice has run very well in her last two starts in similar contests and should go well again.

The Tony Martin-trained Manuka looks temptingly well handicapped over hurdles and his performance on his handicap hurdle debut at Navan a fortnight ago did little to dampen enthusiasm for his longer term hurdling prospects. He seems sure to come on from that experience and remains one to keep on the right side of. The main danger to him looks to be the Christy Roche-trained Golden Ticket who is coming into this in good form and having conditions to suit.

An interesting bumper and the Noel Meade-trained Snow Falcon looks to be the pick. He was sent off at 6/1 and ran very well to finish second in the valuable Land Rover Bumper at the Punchestown Festival in April. While that form has taken a couple of small knocks, the promise of the run was clear. Of the remainder, the Ted Walsh-trained Swansea Mile looks to have solid prospects having finished second in his last two starts in bumpers.
