Between Hills looked a filly of real potential when a somewhat unlucky-in-running third on her debut at Navan. Having been stopped in her run a furlong out, she showed a blistering turn of foot to quicken up close home. Stepping up in trip looks the perfect solution here and although the draw could have been kinder, her class should see her prevail.

Formyboys also caught the eye on his debut, when a close third in a Navan maiden. He also faded close home on that occasion having made much of the running. The tighter track will suit him, although he does have another furlong to travel.

Mairead Kate made an encouraging debut in a Gowran Park maiden that has already thrown up a few winners. Given the fact her trainer likes to leave something to work on between first and second runs, she can be expected to show considerable improvement. Even the bare form of her initial run should see her involved.

Bellakris has caught the eye on a couple of occasions in maidens but always seems to just come up short. Having said that, an ordinary country maiden such as this should be within her grasp.

Starlite Dancer may not have the most inspiring of form figures but on closer inspection they make for interesting reading. The Navan maiden in which he made his debut couldn’t have worked out any better, and his subsequent runs weren’t devoid of promise either. A Stack runner always deserves respect at Listowel and this may just be a well-handicapped horse.

Meryems Way has already won twice this season and brings solid three-year-old form to the table. She looks certain to be involved once again and if there isn’t a rival with a few pounds up its sleeve then she could easily win for the third time.

3.30 Betvictor Guaranteed Run For Your Money (C&G) Maiden 1m Defining Battle should be good enough to get off the mark at the third attempt. A real eyecatcher on his debut at Dundalk last season, Michael Halford’s colt was backed as if defeat was out of the question on his reappearance at Cork. Although he wasn’t disgraced on that latter occasion, the drop back to 7f may have been against him. Racing over a mile now, he can keep it simple and make all.

Tranchee has also just had the two starts; arguably in stronger races than the selection. However, he still looked green on his more recent outing and it may take another couple of runs before he shows his full potential.

Scorpion Black has been knocking on the door in similar races all season and this looks the day it may finally open. The four-year-old ran one of his better races at this track last year at a time when his stable were under a cloud. He has been getting closer with every run of late and well housed now, he should make a bold bid.

Papal Count was third last time in a maiden that could scarcely have worked out better. Both the winner and second went on to win races, the latter just prevailing over Scorpion Black. On this occasion, the claim of Andrew Slattery is what swings the verdict in favour of the Weld horse.

Pretty Boy Floyd really caught the eye on his first run since being gelded [second for the stable] when sixth at Naas last time. Having been tried over a variety of trips this looks his optimum distance and ground conditions should be ideal. Although this is one of the more competitive races on the card, he is put forward as a solid eachway prospect.

Fit For Function is only a pound higher than the mark off which he won over course and distance. Having returned to form at Gowran Park in mid-week he is backed up quickly under a penalty so has to be respected.

Yabass is a rare Irish runner for trainer Archie Watson, so he must really have trawled through the calendar to find a suitable opportunity. Well in at these weights and with a capable pilot on board, the English raider should be good enough to win the finale.

Newcross has a bit to find strictly on ratings but is certain to have been aimed at this race given his connections. Provided the contest doesn’t develop into too severe a stamina test he can make his turn of foot count in the latter stages.
