2.14 Irish EBF Median Sires Series Maiden 6f 60yd

Ischgl has been unlucky to bump into smart types on both of his previous starts, with Great Barrier Reef staying perfect in the Marble Hill and Immortal Guard third behind him. That experience will stand to him here and he has a leading chance.

It also looks a suitable opportunity for The Scallionator to make it third time lucky after taking a step forward at Navan, where he outran odds of 22/1 in second behind a horse with a Royal Ascot aim.

Belicoso is next on the shortlist after a promising debut at the Curragh, followed by Paddy Twomey’s debut third Glenade.

SELECTION: ISCHGL

There was a lot to like about Big Negotiator’s debut effort at Navan earlier this month, despite failing to justify even-money favouritism.

The Havana Grey filly appeared to take a blow close home and should also appreciate the step up in trip, based on her pedigree.

She shares a past rival with Beibhinn, which sees them relatively evenly matched on form, but fellow Joseph O’Brien representative Citrus Springs is also intriguing, having cost $300,000 at Ocala in March.

Aidan O’Brien’s Wootton Bassett filly Madam Secretary is another obvious contender, though market support is the best indicator for the newcomers.

I Bid You Ajou entered the notebook last weekend after his challenge in the Habitat Handicap was delayed as he waited for a clear run. He has more weight to carry in this race but Joseph Harnett’s 7lb claim will help his case and the yard’s horses are in fine form.

Alfred Tennyson will appreciate returning to this trip, having looked outpaced in the early stages over five furlongs last time out. He finished well to take fourth, albeit well behind the first two, but given that they’re now rated 101 and 93, that matters little today.

Inishfallen is another of interest off a career-low mark, while the promising Unauthorized may find this trip a bit sharp.

Satoyama’s looked smart when winning his second start at Gowran Park earlier this month. There is likely more to come from the German-bred three-year-old, who also had the option of going for tomorrow’s valuable Gowran Classic.

Straight Up hasn’t been disgraced at group level, but this looks a more realistic proposition for the well-bred Wootton Bassett colt, whose smart debut win came here over seven furlongs on heavy ground last September.

Impressive Curragh maiden winner Thread Of Gold was disappointing next time out in the Eyrefield Stakes but the Ghaiyyath gelding is expected to make a better three-year-old.

4.20 James Collins Memorial Handicap 7f

Secret Magician got no luck in running two weeks ago at Killarney, but almost got up in time. That was his best run since finishing fourth over today’s course and distance in September, and he appears to have a strong chance today.

The handicapper gave Exceeding a chance to follow up on last month’s win at Leopardstown - an improvement on his second at Naas a month prior. The forecast rain will also be in his favour.

James Henry may be well-treated for his new stable, but could be best watched with an eye to the future, given his year-long absence.

4.50 Lane Family Memorial Handicap 2m 40yd

Grade 1 winner Ballyadam finished second, beaten seven lengths, on his first flat start earlier this month. Today’s step up in trip will help his case, but he isn’t a sure thing off top weight.

The unexposed Sonic Invader might be a better proposition on his first try over two miles, having kept on well in third last time out – his second start after a year off the track.

The 10-year-old Desert Friend, a course winner over hurdles, doesn’t lack experience and may be able to defy an 8lb hike given that he won by seven lengths last time out.

He looks a more dependable prospect than Lagoon Nebula and although she has some decent form in the past, a lot rides on first-time cheekpieces following some lacklustre efforts.

SELECTION: DESERT FRIEND

Three-time hurdle winner Quinta Do Lago is an intriguing prospect on his first flat debut, particularly with the 7lb claim of Josh Halford. That could tip conditions in favour of Jessica Harrington’s four-year-old by top dual-purpose sire Galiway.

Gordon Elliott’s battle-hardened Galway Hurdle victor Ndaawi does have experience on his side and boasts high-class form on the flat, including a fourth place in a valuable Chester handicap.

Paddy Twomey’s lightly-raced but talented five-year-old Sky Captain completes the shortlist.
