1.40 JOHN LYNCH MEMORIAL MAIDEN HURDLE 2M
Makitorix can make a winning debut for Willie Mullins. This French import won once and was placed on a further six occasions from nine starts on the level. His sole victory came on heavy ground at Cholet so there is a good chance that he will cope with the prevailing conditions and he is a thoroughly intriguing recruit to jumping. He is chosen ahead of the 110-rated Big Ben who has filled the runner-up spot on his three outings over hurdles. In two recent outings, Big Ben has yet to match the form that saw him chase home stablemate Landofhopeandglory in a Fairyhouse maiden last November.
Selection: MAKITORIX
Next best: Big Ben
2.15 SEAN T. MCELLIGOTT MEMORIAL NOVICE HURDLE 2M
A tricky contest and a good case could be made for three of the runners. Even though he may ultimately come into his own over further, Minella Beau gets the vote. He is entitled to improve from his successful jumping debut at Galway last month where he defeated Turbojet by ¾l in a 2m maiden hurdle. There should be more to come from him.
Housesofparliament defeated Morgan by 1¾l when they met in a Galway novice hurdle and this former Group 1-placed flat runner can do better still as a jumper. However, when Morgan’s rider’s claim is taken into account the latter is 11lbs better off with Housesofparliament and it wouldn’t come as any surprise to see him reverse the placings.
Selection: MINELLA BEAU
Next best: Morgan
2.50 TOTE HANDICAP HURDLE (80-102) 2M 4F
Artic Pearl is a hopeful choice on his first outing since April. He has shown promise on both his handicap hurdle outings and he was strongly supported for his last start where he shaped up well before eventually fading to finish sixth behind Aa Bee See over this trip. This doesn’t look as strong a race and he can do better.
Iusetaluvheronce is making her second appearance of the week having chased home Wonder Laish in a maiden hurdle on Wednesday. Her trainer’s horses have acquitted themselves well throughout the meeting, with five of his eight runners having reached the frame.
Selection: ARTIC PEARL
Next best: Iusetaluvheronce
3.25 M.J. CARROLL ARRO HANDICAP HURDLE 2M 4F
On Thursday Highland Fling turned in a decent effort to dominate a 1m6f handicap on the flat. He takes his racing well so a quick return to the fray isn’t of any concern and the testing ground won’t be a problem for him either. In addition his last effort over hurdles saw him finish a good fourth to Davids Charm in what looked a hot 2m5f handicap at the Galway Festival. He may not need to improve too much on that showing.
Camlann wasn’t at his best on his last two outings but was possibly feeling the effects of a busy schedule at Galway. He is a capable handicapper who handles most types of ground and he does have winning form at this trip. His best form last season would suggest that he can play a leading role.
Charlie Stout, a three-time handicap winner last season, should be all the better for a couple of recent outings on the flat.
Selection: HIGHLAND FLING
Next best: Camlann
4.00 J.B. NORTH KERRY TYRE CENTRE (Q.R.) HANDICAP CHASE 3M
After showing signs of a return to form last time, My Hometown is put forward to succeed. This gelding first held a rating of 125 over fences but struggled in his initial handicap starts and has now dropped to a mark of 118. However, there were definite signs of encouragement from him last time out when he finished a respectable fifth to Dont Tell No One in a Killarney beginner’s chase. There should be more to come from him over fences and he is preferred to Vinnie Luck. The latter ran quite well over hurdles last time to chase home Masterson at Clonmel. He won’t have any trouble switching back to fences and he has in the past run well at this trip.
Selection: MY HOMETOWN
Next best: Vinnie Luck
4.35 CHARLIE CHUTE MEMORIAL HANDICAP CHASE 2M 1F
Killiney Court’s jumping is a notable cause for concern but with a clear round he is more than capable of winning. He has failed to complete in three of his last four runs over fences but on two of those occasions he was running well in decent races, notably when exiting two out when still vying for the lead in the Cheltenham Festival handicap won by Tully East. Hopefully a recent outing over hurdles will have restored his confidence.
His stablemate Show And Go hasn’t been at his best lately but is a capable sort at his best, as evidenced by a couple of wins last season. A return to form would see him closely involved.
Selection: KILLINEY COURT
Next best: Show And Go
5.10 ALLMAN CONTRACTS LTD. NOVICE CHASE 2M 4F
This could see Rathvinden make it three wins from his last four outings. He comes here off an honourable effort in defeat when he finished a close third in a Killarney novice chase won by Peregrine Run. However, his standout effort over fences is his 5l defeat of the subsequent Kerry National hero Potters Point in a good 2m2f novice chase at the Galway Festival. He is preferred to the smart Three Wise Men who recorded an overdue first success over fences when accounting for Bamako Moriviere in a Galway beginner’s event.
Selection: RATHVINDEN
Next best: Three Wise Men
5.40 LISTOWEL RACES SUPPORTERS CLUB SLAN ABHAILE (Q.R.) FLAT RACE 2M
Humm Baby was a 50/1 shot when winning a bumper at this track in June and she could take beating if she replicates that form. On that occasion the Mahler mare defeated Fabulous Saga and Mischivevious Max and that form couldn’t have worked out much better. The first-named has won twice over hurdles since then while the last-named has also won since and was second in the Lartigue Hurdle on Tuesday.
If coping with this slower ground Humm Baby can see off Awbeg Prince who looked a useful type when seeing off a subsequent winner in a Cork bumper a month ago.
Selection: HUMM BABY
Next best: Awbeg Prince
