1.55 MAURICE POWER SOLICITORS HURDLE 2M 2F

Missy Tata should take advantage of this opportunity. She was a very smart juvenile last season when her form included an unlucky fourth in the Fred Winter at Cheltenham and a commanding success in a mares’ event at the Punchestown Festival. She is well treated by the race conditions for her return to action. Oiche Mhaith Boy won his maiden hurdle at this track and reeled off three wins on testing ground in the early part of the flat season. He should be better for a recent comeback in the Lartigue Hurdle and his previous jumping experience makes him a greater threat than the promising course bumper winner Mossback.

Selection: MISSY TATA

Next best: Oiche Mhaith Boy

2.25 DUNRAVEN ARMS HOTEL NOVICE HURDLE (LISTED) 2M 5F

This might fall to Peregrine Run, who has been progressing notably well lately. He was a well-backed winner of a 2m 4f Down Royal maiden hurdle in August and he followed-up in fine style when defying a mark of 119 in a Gowran Park handicap hurdle last week. He has crept up to a rating of 131 and this fast improving sort deserves his chance at this level.

He is preferred to the four-timer chasing Carrig Cathal, who turned in much his best effort to date to defeat Mai Fitzs Jack in a Listowel novice hurdle. Screaming Rose was a remote third on that occasion but could be a much livelier threat this time. Bitview Colin is interesting as he has run well in a couple of decent handicaps.

Selection: PEREGRINE RUN

Next best: Carrig Cathal

3.00 DOWNLOAD THE AWARD WINNING AT THE RACES APP MARES HANDICAP HURDLE 2M

Head Turner can defy top weight. She has gone up 8lbs for winning a Ballinrobe handicap on her most recent start but the form of that race has been working out very nicely and she can prove equal to the task at hand.

The luckless Crystal Pearl has fallen on her last two outings. She was beaten when falling late on at Navan last month but prior to that she was certain to play a leading role in a handicap at the Galway Festival only to clip a heel turning for home. She looks an obvious contender.

Selection: HEAD TURNER

Next best: Crystal Pearl

3.35 DAVID FITZGERALD MEMORIAL HANDICAP HURDLE 2M 6F

He hasn’t won for over a year, but A Decent Excuse comes here off several honourable efforts in defeat, which would suggest that his turn may not be long in coming. At Listowel last month, he chased home Garri Rua in a 3m contest and, over the same trip, he got to within ¾l of Blackthorn Prince at Clonmel last week.

He is preferred to Tristam Shandy, who finished immediately behind him in the race won by Garri Rua. Tristam Shandy won a 3m handicap at Tipperary earlier this week and a mandatory 4lbs penalty isn’t a major burden to overcome.

Selection: A DECENT EXCUSE

Next best: Tristam Shandy

4.10 PRICEWATERHOUSECOOPER RATED CHASE 2M 3F 120YDS

Sub Lieutenant might need a longer trip to be at his best but he showed smart form at around this distance last season and he can make a winning start to the campaign. After running with credit in some smart novice chases, he won at Grade 3 level at Naas in March and his season ended with a third to Zabana in a Punchestown Grade 1.

Shadow Catcher is respected on his sixth in the Galway Plate but he pulled-up at Listowel last time and a bigger threat might be Pairofbrowneyes. The latter should be all the better for last week’s comeback fifth behind Ballycasey, while he ended last season by posting two pieces of quality handicap chase form.

Selection: SUB LIEUTENANT

Next best: Pairofbrowneyes

4.40 J.T. MCNAMARA LADBROKES MUNSTER NATIONAL HANDICAP CHASE (Grade A) 3M

A hopeful vote goes to Elegant Statesman, whose stamina at this trip has to be taken on trust. The nine-year-old has long been one who appreciates decent ground so conditions should be in his favour and it is not a concern that he hasn’t run since June as he has shown in the past that he is well suited by having his runs nicely spaced out. On his last start, Elegant Statesman won a Galway Plate Trial by the narrowest of margins, but his effort there suggested that he could be worth trying over further and he could land a decent handicap chase.

Following his fine Kerry National triumph, Wrath Of Titans must be considered. He is 13lbs higher in the ratings but again creeps in here off a light weight, which will suit. On Fiddlers Green, Killer Crow and Stellar Notion are others to keep in mind.

Selection: ELEGANT STATESMAN

Next best: Wrath Of Titans

5.10 RACING POST EBF BEGINNERS CHASE 2M 6F

Woodford Island can put his previous chasing experience to good use. This reasonable hurdler was having his first run since February when he chased home Bay Of Freedom in a beginners’ event at Listowel and he can better that form on his second start back. Moylisha Tim comes here off a respectable second to De Plotting Shed in a conditions hurdle at Navan two weeks ago. He should make up into a reasonable chaser. A similar comment applies to Woodford Island’s stablemate Roman Gold, who won twice over hurdles last term but hasn’t run since pulling-up at Clonmel in February.

Selection: WOODFORD ISLAND

Next best: Roman Gold
