2.15 LIMERICK RACECOURSE FAMILY FUN DAY MAIDEN HURDLE 2M
Hudson’s Bay progressed quite well on the flat last summer and his recent outing over hurdles would suggest that he can do just as well over jumps. He was beaten by less than 5l into third by Zafarqand at Gowran Park a fortnight ago and that run earns him the vote. The smart bumper horse MacBride has a rating of 123 over timber, but he has been a disappointment over jumps so far and he finished over 7l behind Hudson’s Bay at Gowran Park. Seven Nation Army is capable of a good deal better than he has shown on his last couple of runs. He could be the other one to focus on.

2.45 JOHN BRADY COUNTRY MUSIC NIGHT 21st JULY RATED HURDLE 2M
This can see Time For Mabel notch up a deserved success. Last time out he showed up well to finish fourth in a premier handicap on the flat at Cork, while his recent efforts over timber include a fine second to Ancient Sands in a valuable handicap at Killarney. That makes him a compelling pick and he is chosen ahead of Isabella Liberty. The latter won handicap hurdles at Sligo and Ballinrobe and she was perhaps a shade unfortunate not to bring up a hat-trick back at Ballinrobe on her penultimate start. The fast ground-loving Thinkitplanitdoit is not one to underestimate as he looks to build on his Killarney maiden hurdle win.

Oisin James comes here in excellent heart and he might be able to make it three wins from his last four starts despite having crept up 15lbs in the weights. The progressive six-year-old won over this trip at Tramore two months ago and then followed-up over 3m at Clonmel before finding Whatever It Takes too strong at Kilbeggan last time. He could yet have more to offer. The ground is a major unknown for Fiddlers Bow, but he has been placed in four of his five handicap starts. A good piece of form is his second to the progressive Luckyinmilan at Thurles in January and he must have a major chance if he can translate that form to a sounder surface.

3.50 SUPERMACS DOORADOYLE CHASE 3M
Former course winner Duckweed can make it two wins from three starts over fences. A capable hurdler, she won a beginners’ chase over 2m 4f at Down Royal in May and followed that with a respectable third to Tiger Roll at Kilbeggan last week. A look at her form would suggest that there is definitely more to come from her at this distance and she is getting quite a useful weight concession from her rivals. Vedettariat is a threat, although his 137 rating outweighs what he has achieved over fences. The ground is an unknown for this gelding, who was a wide margin winner of a Fairyhouse beginners’ chase in the winter. When he was last in action he pulled-up in a handicap hurdle at the Punchestown Festival.

Neverushacon is a tentative choice. He developed into a capable hurdler last summer and he could progress substantially from his chasing debut at Ballinrobe where he was fifth to Tiger Roll. That first outing over fences should have taught him plenty and it was his first run since December. Admittedly, he was then well held on the flat at the Curragh last weekend, but it is worth taking the chance that he can deal with The Plan Man, who lost out by just a head against Baily Cloud in a Tramore beginners’ chase a month ago.
Selection: NEVERUSHACON

5.00 GALWAY PLATE TRIAL HANDICAP CHASE 2M 6F
A 291-day absence is a significant concern, but Shesaportrait would be more than good enough to play a leading role if performing close to her best on her comeback. She made up into quite a useful sort at around this trip last season and her last start was a commendable fifth in the Kerry National – the form of which worked out splendidly with Rogue Angel (first) and Rule The World (third) winning the Irish and Aintree Grand Nationals. King Leon won the Mayo National last time, on what was his first appearance since November. He is now 7lbs higher but should again be closely involved. The bottom-weight Give Me A Break could also mount a strong challenge.

5.30 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF MARES FLAT RACE 2M 4F
Robyn Belle showed enough on her racecourse debut to suggest that she can lift this prize. The placed point-to-pointer made her debut at Clonmel last month and ran with credit to finish a ½l second to Khalessi. The step up to this trip shouldn’t cause her any trouble and she looks too strong for Inchiquin High. The last-named was a prolific winner in the pointing field and has finished second on both her bumper starts, the latest of which saw her lose out by a neck to Toast at Tramore in April.
