Davy Russell’s fine week can continue with Chateauneuf Du Pap. The selection beat subsequent winner Lareena on her first start for Ellmarie Holden in testing conditions at Tramore before looking a beaten third when a last flight faller in handicap company at Naas. She gets the vote over Hows Patsy, a good third in a competitive Naas handicap last time out, and Maeve’s Choice, winner of a weak Fairyhouse maiden over slightly further but the least exposed of these and therefore open to further improvement.

2.30 KERRY GROUP EBF SHANNON SPRAY MARES NOVICE HURDLE (GRADE 3) 2M 6F

A good class renewal of this graded novice hurdle. Crackerdancer scoped wrong after her Fairyhouse disappointment but her previous thrashing of today’s rival Lackaneen Leader here over 2m2f on heavy ground reads very well. This longer trip is a concern for Ray Hackett’s front-runner, much less so for her Fairyhouse victim, who has won both of her starts since.

Preference is for the lightly-weighted five-year-old Alletrix, whose Leopardstown defeat of Coral Cup third Barra in a Leopardstown handicap was followed by a game second to Meri Devie in a mares’ listed race at Punchestown where she battled on well over 2m4f, suggesting this trip should be within her compass.

3.05 59 EURO HOSPITALITY PACKAGES AT LIMERICK RACECOURSE MAIDEN HURDLE 2M 6F

A modest turnout which appears, effectively, a match between the top two on the card, Caltex and Catwalk King. The former was narrowly denied over an extra furlong at Thurles 10 days ago, and with stamina proven gets the vote over Liz Doyle’s charge who now steps up in trip, having chased home the useful Cut The Mustard at a respectable distance at Punchestown last time.

Selection: CALTEX

Nerual comes with a health warning but is given one more chance to make the breakthrough here. She seemed to resent the first-time blinkers at Thurles last time and with the headgear now discarded, she is chosen on the basis of her previous narrow Punchestown defeat off just a pound lower mark.

Goodthynemilan is an obvious threat, now back hurdling after scoring over fences last time, his third win in four starts and the veteran Battling Spirit seems better than ever and looks a danger off his revised mark, having won at Fairyhouse last month.

Selection: NERUAL

4.10 CHARLEVILLE CHEESE EBF MARES NOVICE CHASE (GRADE 2) 2M 6F

Dinaria Des Obeaux has kept good company over fences, finishing third to this week’s OLBG Mares Hurdle winner Benie Des Dieux over an inadequate two miles last time out, having previously run out a decisive winner of a Grade 2 mares’ novice at Thurles, where she had Youcantcallherthat back in third. That rival made a bad blunder two from home and has since gone on to post a career-best when scoring over three miles at Thurles so it could prove a lot closer between the pair here.

Kate Appleby Shoes finished fourth behind the selection at Thurles but was held in third when a faller behind Youcantcallerthat next time and she has it to do now.

Selection: DINARIA DES OBEAUX

4.45 RACING AT LIMERICK RACECOURSE TOMORROW BEGINNERS CHASE 2M 1F 110YDS

Once again a strong challenge from the Gordon Elliott yard with Veinard expected to go close following an encouraging first effort over fences when chasing home the odds-on Cadmium at Fairyhouse last month, nicely clear of the remainder. Balbir Du Mathan has plenty of experience over fences but the front-runner is not the strongest of finishers so this easy track probably suits him. Mighty Stowaway shaped respectably on his chase debut at Thurles but has plenty to make up on Balbir Du Mathan.

Selection: VEINARD

5.15 LIAM HOGAN MEMORIAL HANDICAP CHASE 3M

Last year’s winner Paper Lantern comes here on the back of a a good third at Naas over this trip and although having to concede lumps of weight to his nine rivals here he gets the vote with Donal McInerney’s claim likely crucial.

Simple Steps was a faller last time but his previous narrow defeat at Punchestown brings him right into the mix, while Milanesque finished second in this race two years ago and arrives now off a 6lb lower mark so could run well at an each-way price.

Selection: PAPER LANTERN
