1.35 WWW.LIMERICKRACES.IE (MARES) MAIDEN HURDLE 2M 5F

An open-looking mares’ maiden hurdle and Gordon Elliott may have the answer in the shape of Strike Is Back. The five-year-old failed to win a bumper in five attempts, but gave the strong impression that she is likely to prove better over hurdles when finishing second to Bargy Lady in a maiden at Navan last time. She won’t need to improve much on that to win this. The main threat to her could well be the Stuart Crawford-trained Ardean Lass who finished four and a quarter lengths behind her at Navan, and as that was her racecourse debut she is open to improvement.

This hasn’t transpired into the race it promised to be based on the entries and preference is given to the Tony Martin-trained Prince Charmin’. The son of High Chaparral has run well in both his starts over hurdles, perhaps most notably when fourth to Meri Devie on his hurdling debut. He is unlikely to need to improve much on that effort to win this. The biggest danger to him could be the experienced Bracklin Princess, with Tom Cleary’s charge having earned an official rating of 98 in six starts over hurdles.

2.45 LIMERICK ON TWITTER (C & G) MAIDEN HURDLE 2M

Just a typical maiden hurdle for this time of year and the John McConnell-trained Bold Emperor is given the nod. The son of Galileo was bought off the flat in France and made an encouraging hurdling debut when fifth to Dandy Mag in a maiden at Gowran Park last month. He can be expected to improve from that and is likely to go close. The pick of the remainder may well be the William Murphy-trained Sticky Situation, based on his form in bumpers.

3.20 LIMERICK FAMILY FUN DAY 21ST MAY HANDICAP HURDLE (80-109) 2M

A competitive handicap hurdle and preference is given to the Charles Byrnes-trained Hareth. The seven-year-old made an encouraging return from almost three years off the track when third in a handicap hurdle at Naas and normal improvement from that will be enough for him to go close in this. Of the rest, the Pat Kelly-trained Lizzies Champ warrants respect if he can bounce back from a poor effort on his most recent outing.

Another competitive handicap hurdle and the Mick Winters-trained For Carmel is given the nod. The seven-year-old showed much-improved form on his handicap hurdle debut at Clonmel last time when just touched off by a short-head by Returntovendor, with the pair pulling 21 lengths clear of the remainder. While he has been raised 6lb for that effort, he could well be progressive enough to defy it and get off the mark over hurdles. Of his rivals, the Eugene O’Sullivan-trained Gold Smoke caught the eye on his most recent run at Thurles and could improve enough to go close.

4.30 BOOK €19 PUNTER PACK (PRO-AM) INH FLAT RACE 2M

An intriguing four-year-old bumper and the one that makes the most appeal is the Liz Doyle-trained Remastered. The son of Network was well fancied for his debut at Punchestown last month and shaped as if the run would bring him on in finishing second to Early Doors. This less testing surface is likely to be a help to him and a big effort should be forthcoming. The best of the rest could well be the Gordon Elliott-trained Stooshie who was eight-and-a-half lengths behind the selection at Punchestown on his debut.

5.05 RACING AGAIN TOMORROW (PRO-AM) INH FLAT RACE 2M

An interesting contest to bring the curtain down on proceedings and the Gordon Elliott-trained Hardline looks to be the one.

The five-year-old has won a point-to-point at Punchestown and a bumper at Thurles, but his best performance came when he was second to Getabird in a bumper at Gowran Park last time. A repeat of that will make him very tough to beat.

His main danger looks to be the Ray Hackett-trained Crackerdancer, based on his close second to Shimmer’s Rock at Gowran Park last month.
