12.17 Earl Of Harrington Mares Maiden Hurdle 2m 4f

Galileo Dame has plenty of racing experience and should hold her own against a couple of bumper winners. She didn’t make much of an impact in three runs at listed level on the flat during the autumn but is better judged on last season’s hurdles form which saw her take the runner-up spot behind Hello Neighbour in the Grade 1 juvenile at the DRF and on her Cheltenham Festival effort when sixth in the Grade 2 mares’ novices’ hurdle.

She tries this trip for the first time and is preferred to Forceonmyown, who runs for the first time since winning her bumper at Punchestown in January and Not Negotiable, a Tipperary bumper winner in April 2024 but absent since.

Testing conditions will suit the 10-year-old Krabat. His run behind Rebel Gold and the consistent Dont Go Yet in a similar race at Wexford in April reads well and there was also plenty to like about his effort over hurdles at Fairyhouse a couple of weeks ago, his first outing since May. He goes back up in distance for this and could be a bet against top-weight West Cork Wildway, who found winning form off a much lower handicap mark over hurdles at Cork five weeks ago. Decimation drops back in trip after a big run at Fairyhouse and rates as a danger.

SELECTION: KRABAT

Jade De Grugy ran far below expectations when third behind the subsequent Grade 2 scorer Kala Conti on her first start over fences in a mares’ beginners’ chase at Cork, a poor effort from the six-year-old who boasted such a good record over hurdles. However, she’s worthy of another chance, and could have the measure of her fellow Cheltenham Festival runner-up The Big Westerner, who shaped up nicely on her chasing bow at Fairyhouse when a clear second to the exciting Jimmy Du Seuil. While six lengths in front of Jade De Grugy at Cork, Farfromnowhwere could struggle to confirm that on overall form but she does look third best.

Riskaway looks to have improved with each outing and can follow up on his maiden hurdle success at Thurles a month ago. On his first start over hurdles, he was well on top in beating the subsequent wide-margin winner Zeus Power. Two recent runs will certainly stand to Riskaway and he can win this from Storm Heart, who must concede 3lb here.

The latter has his first start since finishing second in a valuable handicap hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival in February, which itself was a fair performance after a nine-month absence. A bumper winner at Killarney in August, Parnell Street gained a maiden hurdle victory at Clonmel at the beginning of the month.

Torps runs in a handicap hurdle for the first time. A couple of late jumping errors counted against him when second to Walks In June in a maiden hurdle over two miles here in October and, when denied a clear tun, he was a shade unfortunate not to have finished closer over the same distance in a similar race here last month. It’s no surprise to see him going up in trip now and he can win from Rowdy, who ran his best race when just losing out to an in-form Theanniversary Man at Cork three weeks ago. A handicap chase winner at this festival last year, Whateys Quest is back over hurdles for the first time since a maiden success at Clonmel in April 2024.

A narrow runner-up in the final race on this card a year ago, Wardens Whisper could be the answer. He arrives on the back of two placed efforts, showing up well when third in a stronger race at Galway in October and again when filling the same position in a similar contest to this at Cork a month ago.

Less exposed is Peaceinthevalley, who goes into a handicap hurdle for the first time. He only dropped away in the straight when finishing in behind Riskaway at Thurles and this is a far lesser task. She’s On Line has a big chance on her run at Clonmel in October. She was found to be sore when a beaten joint-favourite over this course and distance last time.

SELECTION: WARDENS WHISPER

Diamond Dollar was a strong favourite to gain his first success in the contest won by Theanniversary Man at Cork earlier this month. That race was over two and a half miles and as he faded over the final two hurdles, it’s hardly a surprise that he drops back in distance. Harry’s Dream fared far better last time when winning at Thurles and the five-year-old should go well again, albeit in more testing conditions this time. Top-weight River Vale also scored on his most recent start, winning in good style on soft to heavy ground at Naas. Like the selection, Burlington House has yet to get off the mark but he showed enough at Clonmel to suggest a breakthrough win is coming.
