Billy’s Hope is a solid option as she looks to improve on her third to Coney Island in a maiden hurdle at this track last month. Before that she had won a Punchestown bumper and her third to Augusta Kate at Navan in November is another decent effort, particularly as the second (Cashelard Lady) and fourth (Myztique) have both won maiden hurdles in recent weeks. Danielle’s Journey might be the one to chase her home. She finished second to Conright Boy in a Down Royal maiden last time only to be disqualified and prior to that she was third to Whatsforuwontgobyu in a maiden at Sligo in May.

This should see Pylonthepressure get off the mark over timber. The smart dual bumper winner made a solid start to his jumping career when finishing a 5l second to the subsequent Grade 1 runner-up Tombstone in a Fairyhouse maiden in November. A repeat of that run could well suffice and he is entitled to progress from that outing. He has most to fear from another decent bumper horse in Our Duke. The latter was a wide margin winner on his debut at Punchestown two months ago and lost little in defeat when going down by ½l to Death Duty in a useful winners’ event at Navan last month.

Gallant Oscar returns to hurdles following his comeback outing in the Paddy Power Chase where he was in the process of running quite a nice race only to exit at the second last. He is some 24lb higher than when he last won over hurdles but his latest outing over timber at Punchestown in December 2014 saw him finish a 2l second to very smart Sort It Out so there are grounds for believing that he can add to his tally over hurdles. Childrens List comes here off an honourable fourth to the subsequent Grade 1 Prince Of Scars at Navan last time and warrants the utmost respect on that showing. Golan Lodge is another to consider having shaped with considerable promise behind Flemenstorm at Fairyhouse where he looked a likely winner for most of the straight.

A speculative vote goes to Los Amigos. On his first start since April he was beaten just under 20l into 10th by Minella Foru in last month’s Paddy Power Chase. However, that final placing scarcely conveys the merit of his effort as he shaped up very well for much of that race only to weaken out of contention from the turn in. With the benefit of that run behind him and over this shorter trip he could get closely involved. An obvious threat is Fine Rightly who made a fine return to chasing to land a useful 2m 4f contest at Navan last month when he defeat Fever Pitch by 1¾l. A 7lb rise for that victory shouldn’t prevent him from mounting a strong challenge.

Killultagh Vic can make it two wins from as many start over fences. A Cheltenham Festival winner and a Grade 1 scorer at Punchestown last season, he impressed on his chasing bow at Fairyhouse last month when he handed out a 15l beating to Arctic Skipper. This is an appreciably stronger contest but Killultagh Vic can be relied upon to step forward from that reappearance outing and the longer trip of this race will work in his favour. He has the capacity to make up into a high class chaser. The 142-rated Lord Scoundrel might give him most to do. Admittedly the latter was beaten 42l by Ttebbob but he has won three times over fences this season and is probably better judged on his 8l second to Sizing John at Punchestown in November.

The well-bred Aspen Colorado could strike for his powerful connections. The Galileo gelding is out a mare who has already produced several winners and he comes from the immediate family of the high-class filly Luas Line. Clonkeen Lad is another notable newcomer as a Rail Link half-brother to the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle victor Cinders And Ashes. Without Limites represents the stable that won this race in 2013. He is a son of the excellent Martaline out of quite a smart racemare. Another worth a mention is Cesar Du Gouet whose dam is a half-sister to the very useful Val De Ferbet.
