1.22 Killarney Avenue Hotel Maiden Hurdle 2m 1f

Provided his confidence hasn’t been knocked from a fall at Fairyhouse in Grade 2 company over Easter, North Shore stands out with an official rating of 133. The Triumph Hurdle 12th had showed promise when third and fourth behind Narciso Has at Leopardstown twice before that. Portnahapple, runner-up in two Curragh maidens for Andy Oliver last autumn, rates a likely smart recruit to hurdles for Willie Mullins.

With a flat rating of 89, Magico is likely to have enough ability to win a maiden hurdle of this nature, albeit he’s going hurdling for the first time at the age of five and hasn’t run for 329 days. After being bought back by his vendor for 84,000gns at the horse-in-training sales last autumn, he now debuts for Willie Mullins. Minella Mate, rated 80 on the level and a strong stayer, failed to fully fire on his sole hurdles start back in July 2023 as 11/10 favourite. He’s better than that suggests, though. Down Royal disappointment Bud Fox is a big player if back to his best.

Break My Soul never showed her true ability at Fairyhouse last time, when off the pace in a race where it was tough to come from behind. She’s now back hurdling for the first time since finishing fourth behind Lossiemouth and Wodhooh in last year’s Aintree Hurdle and fourth to State Man, Golden Ace and Kargese in the 2025 Punchestown Champion Hurdle. The close-up third in this year’s Grand Annual has cheekpieces added for the first time. Sainte Lucie, a winner at Cork off a mark of 126 over Easter, will give another big showing, while Royal Hollow has her confidence up from a recent chasing success at Clonmel.

3.00 Kelly Bros Handicap Hurdle 2m 1f

It was an encouraging Irish debut for Becasse when second to a runaway winner and, with natural improvement, he might be able to go one better in an open-looking affair. A mistake at the second last was especially bad timing for him then, and he’d been off for 519 days beforehand, so clearly can improve from the run. Top-weight Impero is operating on his ideal ground and trip, so must be taken seriously. Wholelotofbusiness was returning from a break last time and could be much sharper now returning to the scene of his novice hurdle win last October.

SELECTION: BECASSE

3.35 Gerard O’Sullivan Memorial Novice Chase 2m 7f

Da Capo Glory was unfortunate to be squeezed for space when feeling the pinch at Punchestown last week, parting company with his rider on the level, but he’ll give this a good rattle on the best of his form. He was only beaten eight lengths in the Martin Pipe at Cheltenham prior to that, and his previous pair of chasing thirds weren’t bad showings. Sandor Clegane has to concede a 6lb penalty for his recent Down Royal win. The confidence gained from that victory should do him good. Butch Cassidy would have been fancied only for bleeding from both nostrils after disappointing as 4/1 favourite at Fairyhouse last month.

Beginners Chase 2m 5f

Emily Love, last seen winning at Far Hills last October, clearly lacks a recent run, but will be effective on the ground and has point-to-point experience to call on ahead of this chasing debut. Her talented dam, Emily Gray, proved a fair deal better over fences than hurdles too. La Note Verte hasn’t been seen since last year’s Listowel Harvest Festival in September, but looks capable of winning one of these. Miss Doyenne is another with point-to-point experience and has race fitness on her side.

SELECTION: EMILY LOVE

4.45 Tote Killarney National Handicap Chase 3m 2f

Having been out of luck when trying to exploit a lower hurdles mark the last twice, Midnight Our Fred can show much more of what he’s about now reverting to fences. The former Paddy Power Chase second, down to a competitive mark, won’t have any issues with dry ground. Shanbally Kid stays well and might well bounce back from an early unseat at Punchestown last weekend. The Gradual Slope is 1lb out of the handicap, but remains dangerous to underestimate after a recent Fairyhouse victory. It wouldn’t be a shock if Pride Of Place showed a lot more now back on better ground.

5.17 Hugh Mulryan Memorial (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race 2m 1f

Sam Curling’s record in bumpers at this track means his No Risk At All newcomer Kolirisk De Couely (a €52,000 store) demands maximum respect. From 15 Killarney bumper runners, Curling, who won this race 12 months ago, has notched five winners (a third of his entire career bumper winners) and three seconds. Linford is a Masked Marvel debutant for Willie and Patrick Mullins, Mike Des Mottes ran well behind Punchestown winner Adaboy Mushy on debut and 40,000gns Godolphin castoff Mountain Sky comes from a smart family.
