Mooltazem is no more than a hopeful choice. It is a concern that he refused to race on his last couple of flat starts but he didn’t show these tendencies on his jumping debut at Galway last weekend where he was beaten 30l into sixth by Mr Everest. He will surely progress from that initial experience over jumps and this does look an appreciably weaker contest, so if he can perform to anything like the level he showed on the flat he could well succeed. He has most to fear from Brog Ahaon who has a rating of 102 and ran respectably to finish third to Razoul in a maiden over this course and distance last month.

He hasn’t run over hurdles for two years but Conrad Hastings might make his mark back over the smaller obstacles at a track that seems to suit him. This gelding ran no race whatsoever in a Wexford conditions chase last time but previously won a 2m 4f handicap chase at this track off a mark of 140. If in that form he might have the measure of Tombstone whose two efforts this summer are a long way below the pick of his form from last winter.

A step-up to this trip could help Tombstone but he does have to concede upwards of 10lbs to his rivals.

Luis Van Zandt, who was a very late withdrawal at Cork on Monday due to the going, looks an obvious contender. After just five runs he is open to more improvement than most of these rivals, and when he was last seen in action he posted a very encouraging effort at Fairyhouse in April to finish third to Scotch Quay.

He could take beating here and can see off Something Sweet. This mare was down the field at Galway last week but a drop in class and a step-up in trip should see her do much better. She is a generally reliable type.

He has yet to run over hurdles but Guiri should take beating on what he showed on the flat in Germany. This four-year-old contested last year’s German Derby and, while he didn’t feature there, he had previously been placed in a couple of Group 3 contests.

If he can translate that form to hurdling he should make a smart sort and can deal with Jack Hackett who will be all the better for his fourth to Rocket Lad in a winners’ bumper at Galway last weekend. That was his first run in three months and he should come on plenty for that.

SELECTION: GUIRI

Make My Heart Fly has a good opportunity to make her mark over fences. She comes here off a very respectable showing at Galway last week when beaten just over 10l into third by Wicklow Brave in a Grade 3. Before that she looked somewhat unlucky in a beginners’ event at Tipperary where she lost out to Feeling The Love after being hampered at a critical stage of the race.

Eamon High is an obvious danger as he looks to build on a couple of encouraging chase runs. He was second to the smart Robin De Carlow over this course and distance two months ago and was then a creditable third to Westland Row in a 2m6f beginners’ race here last month.

A speculative vote goes to Shanpallas who has dropped a long way down the weights from his peak. This season alone the 11-year-old has gone down 9lbs for three runs, and he showed a glimmer of promise at Wexford last time which earns him consideration, especially when his in-form rider’s 5lb claim is taken into account.

His yard is in great shape. This time two years ago he was rated 30lbs higher and ran a very respectable seventh in the Galway Plate.

The triple course winner Lucky Pat comes here in good form. He chased home All The Answers at Galway last weekend having previously taken second behind Deans Road in a handicap chase at Tipperary.

Sue Ellen is no more than a tentative choice to make a winning debut. She catches the eye as a representative of an in-form yard and she has the assistance of a top amateur. She is a daughter of a good sire in Califet and her dam won a bumper during her time on the track. She might have most to fear from fellow newcomer Mountainmore who is a daughter of Mountain High and comes from the family of Morning Run and Morning Supreme who were both smart mares for her trainer, Willie Mullins.
