Syosset has been knocking on the door this summer and following three placed efforts in succession, he’s the clear choice based on consistency, if nothing else. Michael Kenneally’s claim should help John McConnell’s five-year-old get off the mark as he makes a quick return following Monday’s third at Cork.

Surviving Murmansk placed on the same card, when a change in tactics seemed to reinvigorate James Barcoe’s grey. Another positive ride may help him go one better, though he’s usually unpredictable.

Blue Reed’s sole win came over two miles and three furlongs here in May, but Jack Kennedy’s mount has placed over shorter and looks likely to be in the mix when it counts.

Tyson Fury has shown enough to suggest he can win this, but there’s a fear that last week’s two runs at Galway may have left him flat and vulnerable to a rival who might ordinarily be a class below.

There are few likely candidates, the most promising being French import Mont Star, who led for a long way last month at Cork and likely tired on his first start since November, eventually beaten eight lengths in second.

It was an improved effort on his disappointing Irish debut, when he was well-beaten, but the fact that he was well-supported suggests he’s shown promise at home.

Cooladdi is next on the shortlist, having been in contention when falling at the second last last time out at Roscommon.

This looks an ideal opportunity for Rocky’s Diamond at the weights. With Micheal Kenneally’s claim, the Grade 2 winner and Stayers’ Hurdle fourth only carries 1lb more than Pets Georgina, whose two recent wins lack the substance of the selection.

John Ryan’s mare may be on the up, but it’s not long ago that Rocky’s Diamond was rated 154 over hurdles and this assignment should help Declan Queally’s six-year-old return to form.

Anodandawink was a cut above his rivals at Wexford last month and while he’s without the assistance of Harry Cobden today, Peter Smithers’ 7lb claim softens the blow of the 10lb rise he received for his maiden victory.

With just two chase starts under his belt, Ciaran Murphy’s five-year-old remains unexposed over fences and may be capable of following up here.

The hat-trick seeking Zolpharine may be stretched over today’s trip, but it might be a positive for Mistyburn, who produced his best run over fences at Galway on Sunday.

John Ryan has won the last two runnings of this race and has the in-form Daniel King aboard this year’s hope Grange Walk. The 11-year-old hasn’t won in over a year, but the ground and trip are a positive, as is bottom weight.

He does lack the class of Jasko Des Dames, who has been running well in defeat, most recently at the Aintree and Cheltenham festivals. He carries a hefty weight, but this is a marked drop in class for a horse who may have been predominantly campaigned over two miles, but has won over similar to today’s trip.

Rexem was headed close home over course and distance on his penultimate start and looks likely to go close again following a fine fifth in the Galway Blazers’ Handicap Chase.

Mr Enigma ran a decent race on debut finishing third behind a previous winner and two and three-quarter lengths behind the second, who subsequently went close at Galway. He was 125/1 that day, but the fact that there were previous winners behind him suggests it was no fluke.

Inishtearaght, in contrast, was well-backed on debut and looked to tire when finishing fifth, beaten 12 lengths. An improved effort is expected from the Poet’s Word gelding today.

Confidence Within showed promise in a Ballindenisk maiden and his pedigree suggests he’ll have the gears for a bumper, given that his dam gained blacktype in one at Aintree.

Appy Ways is a newcomer of note from the same connections that won last year’s running with her half-sister on debut.
