4.00 Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes 6f

Do Bronxs: Nicely-bred son of Oasis Dream made a smart start at Ayr before being outclassed in a Newbury listed event. Hard to see him making the frame.

Gstaad: Seemed to be rated below True Love at home, considering the betting on their joint debut in May. Gstaad defied the market and confirmed his class with a dominant win in the Coventry Stakes, from which the third emerged to take the Richmond Stakes, while the runner-up has since run with credit. Unsurprising to see Ryan Moore take the ride.

Power Blue: Talented and consistent colt, but he has four lengths to make up on Gstaad and finished further behind True Love last time. No reason to think he can reverse the form today.

Puerto Rico: Made the running in the Railway Stakes in which he was ultimately beaten five lengths by True Love.

He probably preferred not leading next time in the Richmond Stakes, when he finished second, but he is expected to fulfil pacemaking duties again today.

Green Sense: First two starts – a debut win and Group 3 second to Lady Iman – rate her highly, but she disappointed in the Albany Stakes. She bounced back in the Prix Robert Papin, but her rivals didn’t look as strong compared to today – the runner-up was well-beaten at Ascot and Goodwood.

True Love: Has progressed with every run, her only defeats coming to talented individuals in Gstaad and Lady Iman. There’s a chance that her latest win – by five lengths in the Railway Stakes – means she’s improved past Gstaad, but Ryan Moore thinks otherwise.

Verdict

This looks a contest between Ballydoyle’s exciting juveniles Gstaad and True Love. Ryan Moore’s selection of Gstaad automatically puts the colt to the top of the market, and justifiably so, having been so impressive at Royal Ascot and the form has paid compliments to that performance.

True Love won’t make it easy for him, though, looking back on her impressive success last time. Their stablemate Puerto Rico is leading contender for third-placed honours.
