Up For Review has been off the track for almost two years but he might still be the one to side with. His yard has a fine record with bringing horses back from long absences and he was a very useful staying novice hurdler when he was last seen in action. He has winning form at this trip and the ground is sure to suit so he might just be able to deal with the former Cheltenham winner Mall Dini.

The latter has yet to reach the heights over fences that he did over hurdles. He has come up short in stronger races on his last couple of starts but a strong challenge should be forthcoming back at this level. However, he was beaten in this race last season and a longer trip and better ground might just suit him better.

2.00 RED MILLS CHASE (GRADE 2) 2M 4F

A terrific edition of this race and Presenting Percy can overcome Our Duke. Last season’s Pertemps Final winner comes here off a smooth win in the Grade 2 Galmoy Hurdle over three miles and prior to that he produced a tremendous effort on just his third outing over fences to win a decent three-mile and five-furlong Fairyhouse handicap off a mark of 145 two months ago. His best form is over longer trips than the one he encounters today but there is unquestionably more to come from this stellar talent. He can cope with this shorter trip.

Our Duke is a formidable foe and he ran better than his recent 15l fourth to Edwulf at Leopardstown would suggest as he made a mistake at a critical stage of the race. The Irish Grand National winner has Grade 1 form at two-mile, five furlongs over fences so he can handle this shorter distance. Further interest is supplied by former Grade 1 scorer Valseur Lido, while A Toi Phil is a very smart sort at this level.

Knockraha Pylon is a hopeful choice to follow up last month’s two-mile handicap hurdle triumph at Thurles where she coped well with very demanding conditions. She is also a capable sort as a chaser and her last start over the larger obstacles resulted in her finishing fourth to the high-class mare and subsequent Grade 1 winner Shattered Love at Clonmel in November.

She has plenty to fear from Scoir Mear who tackles handicap company for the first time. So far this term Scoir Mear has yet to match the calibre of form that he showed as a hurdler but it should be remembered that he was an especially progressive type last season and he was a most unlucky fifth in the Coral Cup at Cheltenham.

Positive Approach is respected having held every chance when falling at the last in a race won by Kopookris at Thurles last month.

A very substantial weight concession from Mick Jazz makes Lagostovegas a huge threat and she is put forward as an alternative to the favourite. The 146-rated mare receives 18lbs from Mick Jazz and it is worth recalling that she was progressing very well as a two-mile hurdler when she was last in action over jumps.

She recorded Grade B handicap hurdle triumphs at both Killarney and Listowel (defeating the high class Davids Charm) before then taking third in the English Cesarewitch and second in a Naas listed race.

Mick Jazz sets a formidable standard having defeated Cilaos Emery to win a Grade 1 at Leopardstown over Christmas and he ran at least as well when third to Supasundae in the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown a fortnight ago.

Forge Meadow is respected while Identity Thief’s comeback behind Supasundae was respectable and he should be able to build on that.

Saldier is an interesting recruit to hurdling and he holds an entry in next month’s Triumph Hurdle which is encouraging. During his time on the flat in France he recorded a victory on heavy ground and he could be a useful recruit to jumping. Admittedly, he was well held on his last few flat runs in France but they came at listed and group level. In addition, his yard has won four of the last five runnings of this race.

Saldier is chosen ahead of Les Arceaux who has filled the runner-up spot on his first two outings over timber. He was beaten three-quarters of a length by Veneer Of Charm on his jumping debut at Punchestown and went down by the same amount to Sayo in a maiden at Naas last month.

This could see Peace N’Milan follow up last month’s course and distance triumph. The Milan mare, who relishes testing ground, has to contend with an 8lb rise in the weights. However, she is actually 4lbs better off with Graineyhill who she beat three and a half lengths into second on that occasion. This revised terms make her the choice to follow up.

Graineyhill has since gone to win a two-mile and four furlongs handicap at Fairyhouse last week. He is in excellent heart at present and represents a live threat. Aa Bee See was in excellent form when he was last in action and he had Peace N’Milan well behind when scoring at Punchestown in mid-December. This is his first run since then and he warrants every consideration.

Court Maid is one of several newcomers who take the eye and she might be able to make a winning start to her career. This daughter Court Cave is a half-sister to several useful winners and three of those made their marks in bumpers which is an encouraging pointer to her chances.

Another likely contender is Mary B who is a half-sister to two capable winners for her yard. Her trainer sent out a gambled on bumper winner last weekend and she gets plenty of weight as a four-year-old while her rider claims a valuable 5lbs. Several of these have placed form and Owenacurra Lass looks the pick of them by virtue of her good second to Colreevy at Fairyhouse two months ago.
