Storm Elza shaped like a certain future winner on her recent debut at Naas in a race that has already produced a couple of winners. She stuck to her task well in the straight, appearing as though this step up in trip will be to her advantage. Tony Mullins’ filly is well drawn here and looks one to get the locals off to a winning start.

Pasley improved on earlier efforts when staying-on in eye-catching fashion at Limerick last weekend. Joseph O’Brien’s colt should go close now faced with an extra furlong, although the strength of that aforementioned maiden is questionable.

SELECTION: STORM ELZA

Insane Bolt was a huge eye-catcher at this venue last time when keeping on steadily to be nearest at the finish in a 7f handicap. He will have learned plenty from that first run in a handicap and running over a mile will very much play to his strengths. Although he needs to overturn form with the first and second from that race, he is confidently expected to do so.

Grace To Grace ran very well on her final start for Darren Bunyan last season, so deserves respect on her debut for Joseph O’Brien. As a daughter of Big Bad Bob, she will appreciate the underfoot conditions.

Annie Fior who has been a revelation for her owner/trainer this season may be able to claim her biggest win. Just denied in a stronger contest at Cork last time, she is ideally drawn for a front-runner, so will take plenty of pegging back. A previous course winner, there is no questioning her ability to handle the track, a big positive in any race.

Crotchet was a gallant second over 7f at this venue last time and will benefit from the extra furlong. She has been raised 2lbs for that effort but her rider takes off 5lbs here, so in theory she is well treated. It will be a surprise if she is not fighting out the finish.

SELECTION: ANNIE FIOR

3.20 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF RACE 1M

Could Be King was highly tried last season, as connections clearly thought a great deal of him. He made a pleasing return in listed company at Leopardstown last time and is entitled to improve from that outing. Even a reproduction would probably be good enough to win here, as the pair in front of him at the Foxrock track are very useful animals.

Sherkali won a Navan maiden on his reappearance and although the second has yet to frank the form, Dermot Weld’s horse could do no more than beat what he faced on the day. The third has since won a moderate maiden in taking fashion, so the race may yet work out well.

SELECTION: COULD BE KING

3.55 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF VICTOR MCCALMONT MEMORIAL STAKES (LISTED RACE) (FILLIES & MARES) 1M 1F

Who’s Steph has something in hand of these rivals and having already had an outing this season should be spot on. Ger Lyons’ filly won in higher grades last year, so will appreciate the drop in class. With no concerns about either trip or ground it will be disappointing if she can’t add to her tally here.

Surrounding has been a model of consistency in recent times so looks certain to be in the shake up. A slight concern would have to be very testing ground, as she has always seemed more at home on a sounder surface.

SELECTION: WHO’S STEPH

4.30 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF FILLIES MAIDEN 1M 1F

Maria Christina probably bumped into a well above average filly when second at this track on her reappearance. It was a run in keeping with her promising debut effort at Leopardstown last season. With nothing out of the ordinary in this field, she is taken to make it third time lucky.

Lady Olenna ran much better than her final placing suggests on her debut at Cork last time. Trapped on the rail, she was never able to get a clear run, before keeping on under hands and heels. Her owner/breeder will be keen for her to do well in maidens as she could be worth plenty once she retires to the paddocks.

SELECTION: MARIA CHRISTINA

Next best: Lady Olenna

5.05 LENGTHEN THE ODDS WITH BETVICTOR HANDICAP (DIV I) 1M

Our Anniversary returned to something like her best form when staying on strongly at Tipperary last time. Her improvement can almost certainly be put down to the easier ground conditions, so any further rain would just strengthen her chances now. On the flip side, should it dry out over the weekend, confidence would be dented somewhat.

Rince Deireanach could prove very well handicapped off her current mark, especially when taking the riders claim into account. A winner off much higher marks in the past, she shaped with plenty of encouragement when second on her latest outing.

SELECTION: OUR ANNIVERSARY

Solomons Seal isn’t the easiest horse to win with but always seems to reserve his best for this track. His sole previous success came at this venue, while he was very unlucky on his seasonal debut here last month. With ground conditions ideal and the mile appearing just what he needs, a big run is very much anticipated.

Lunastar ran better than her placing indicates when mid division at Naas last week. She makes a quick return so is clearly in good heart and has come out of that latter race well.
