TOMORROW’s Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin has one foreign runner in the Luca Cumani-trained Second Step.

Most recently the son of Dalakhani found the subsequent Goodwood Cup winner Big Orange half a length too good in the Princess of Wales’s Stakes at Newmarket. He had previously beaten Telescope in the Jockey Club Stakes.

Peter Schiergen leads the home defence with Girolamo and Nutan. The latter was a five-length winner of the Deutsches Derby (Group 1) at Hamburg in July and is the only three-year-old in the field. Girolamo was a previous Group 1 winner, but now at six appears to be on the decline.

The four-year-old Ito is unbeaten in three runs this year including a Group 2 last time out.

Second Step’s form looks good enough for him to make a bold bid under Jamie Spencer.
