ANDRE Fabre has supplemented Elliptique for tomorow’s Group 1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis at Munich, Germany’s most important middle-distance event.

Frankie Dettori has been booked to ride the Rothschild-owned five-year-old, who was runner-up last time in La Coupe at Maisons-Laffitte and has very consistent form to his credit, but will be tackling a Group 1 for the first time.

A total of 12 horses were declared at the final stage on Wednesday and, as all were jocked-up, it can be assumed that they are all intended runners. The other 11 are all German-trained and include all the country´s top performers at this distance of 2,000 metres. Gestüt Schlenderhan’s Ito is the top-rated runner on 120, and this strong front-runner won the Grosser Preis von Bayern here last November over a mile and a half. Over this shorter trip he will be difficult to catch if granted an early lead, but Iquitos and Articus both finished better over 11 furlongs when this trio took the first three places at Baden-Baden in late May.

IMPROVED

Top trainer Andreas Wöhler has two runners, Potemkin, the choice of stable jockey Eduardo Pedroza, who is much improved and has won seven of his last eight starts, and the trainer’s own Incantator (Jozef Bojko), a half-brother to this year’s German Derby winner Isfahan.

In what looks a very open affair, Potemkin, who is part-owned by football star Klaus Allofs, is expected to start favourite. Wöhler will know how he stands with Iquitos, runner-up to his star Protectionist at Hamburg last time.
