COULD history be set to repeat itself at Ballybrit on Monday? The 2023 curtain raiser was won by subsequent dual Grade 1 winner Mystical Power and his half-brother has been garnering some attention in the lead-up to his debut on the same card next week.

Power Of Knowledge is bred in the purple, being by Camelot and out of the mighty Annie Power, and has been earmarked for Monday’s concluding Ray Dooley Monami Construction Bumper for four-year-olds.

Trained by Willie Mullins for J.P. McManus and Mrs John Magnier, the blue-blooded debutant was the subject of a positive mention from champion amateur Patrick Mullins when asked about the stable’s Galway names to note on Racing TV this week. “It’s early days as the horses we’d have bought in the last year wouldn’t be in yet, but I think next week we’ll have a newcomer called Power Of Knowledge,” said the Grand National-winning rider.

“He’ll probably go for the bumper on the Monday night. He’s still a colt. This horse is a brother to Davy Crockett and a half-brother to Mystical Power, who both had to be gelded. We’ve left this horse as he is so we’ll see. He’s obviously very exciting.

“He’s definitely more straightforward [than his siblings] but he definitely knows he’s a colt. He can still go for the Arc if he gets gelded!”

Power Of Knowledge also holds an entry for Thursday’s Guinness Time Bumper over two miles and two furlongs against older rivals.
