AIDAN O’Brien has runners in both tomorrow’s Criterium de Saint-Cloud and Criterium International which bring the Group 1 season in France to a close. Four of the seven runners in the 10-furlong race are O’Brien-trained and Ryan Moore has chosen Delano Roosevelt. Charlie Appleby runs Stage Magic (William Buick) and the Irish-bred, English-owned, French-trained filly Luminate could be the one they all have to beat.

Freddy Head has saddled Luminate to win her only two races for Highclere Thoroughbred Racing and the daughter of Lawman was particularly eye-catching when thrashing five others in the nine-furlong Prix de Conde. Stage Magic was the odds-on favourite but he finished last. Previously, he had just held on to the Prix des Chenes from Olmedo who was then runner-up to Happily in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere. Delano Roosevelt comes up against three stablemates.

Nelson (Donnacha O’Brien) and Kew Gardens (Seamie Heffernan) both finished ahead of him in a Group 3 race at Leopardstown but Delano Roosevelt just reversed the positions with Kew Gardens when runner-up in the Beresford Stakes at Naas to Saxon Warrior. Maiden Voyage was well beaten by Luminate in a newcomers’ event at Deauville but has since hacked up in a conditions race at Compiegne.

CRITERIUM INTERNATIONAL

O’Brien relies on just Threeandfourpence (Ryan Moore) in the seven-furlong contest. The Ballydoyle contender won a maiden at Fairyhouse and was fourth in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes. Frankie Dettori rides Hey Gaman for James Tate. He has won three races to date and was narrowly beaten by Seahenge in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster.

Harry Dunlop saddles Fighting Irish (Christophe Soumillon) who bolted up at Yarmouth and beat two others in the Group 2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte.

The only filly is the Karl Burke-trained Ellthea. She was the easy winner of a Group 3 race at Naas before a fifth in the Fillies’ Mile. The main French contender must be the unbeaten Sacred Life. She crushed opponents at Deauville and when taking the Group 3 Prix Thomas Bryon by six lengths. Cascadian is trained for Godolphin by Andre Fabre. The colt won a conditions race over the distance at Maisons-Laffitte. Woodmax is also useful.

The mile Prix Perth has two English runners in Hathal (Frankie Dettori) and Stormy Antarctic (Christophe Soumillon). The best of the French could be Glen Sheil and Enlighted. They have both won at level.
