THERE are three Group 3 races on the ParisLongchamp card tomorrow and all eyes will be on the Group 3 Prix du Prince D’orange which is due off at 1.33pm. It features the European debut of the Japanese Derby winner and leading Arc contender Croix Du Nord.
Already in recent weeks, two Japanese contenders, the three-year-old Alohi Alii, and Byzantine Dream have landed French group contests.
He faces an interesting test in the 10-furlong contest, with John and Thady Gosden sending over the triple winner Nahraan in the Prince Faisal colours and Francis Graffard running Daryz, bidding to bounce back from a sixth place in the Juddmonte International, which was his first defeat in five outings.
Croix Du Nord has not run since that Derby win in June and looks sure to be tested here, three weeks ahead of his big date on October 5th.
Nahrann nosed out the Great Voltiguer third Arabian Force in a listed race in July and has to step up again. Daryz’s win in Saint-Cloud’s Group 2 Prix Eugene Adam in June was boosted by the second Bay City Roller running well in the Prix Neil last week and he can best the Japanese runner on this occasion.
The five-furlong Prix Du Pin can go to another Graffard runner in the Aga Khan filly Rayevka. Third to Time For Sandals in the Commonwealth Cup, she wasn’t disgraced when seventh in the Prix Maurice de Gheest to Sajir. Ponntos is the danger.
The Group 3 Prix Du Petit Couvert over seven furlongs looks open, with two overseas runners in Poet Master (Karl Burke) and Divine Libra (Charles Hills), but the Graffard/Aga Khan runner again looks to have leading claims.
