12.40 Happy New Year From All At Fairyhouse Maiden Hurdle 2m 4f

Flanking Maneuver should be able to win here having made a very pleasing hurdles debut at Navan recently. The form of that race has already received a boost and at the time it looked a heat that would provide plenty of winners. Stepping up in trip will be a help for the Noel Meade-trained entry who can register a first win over jumps.

Folcano also showed distinct promise on his sole hurdles start to date when staying on late over this trip at Navan. A former point-to-point winner, he will appreciate a test of stamina so the harder they go the better his prospects.

Hook Up was highly tried as a four-year-old last season, perhaps an indication of the esteem in which she was held by connections. Despite failing to win on two attempts, she acquitted herself well in top company. An easy course win on her seasonal debut suggested she may well have improved for the break.

Delvino couldn’t have won any easier on her hurdling debut at Naas and we really have no idea how good this mare could be. She faces a much stiffer test this afternoon. It is quite likely that she will play a leading role in this stronger company.

Crassus remains open to improvement over flights having had just the four runs to date. Noel Meade clearly means business as he has availed of the services of leading amateur Lisa O’Neill on this occasion. Fresh from a very solid effort on the flat at Dundalk, the son of War Command can win his second race over hurdles.

The Brogie Man has been disappointing over hurdles but Áine O’Connor looks a significant booking. Formerly a very decent flat performer, he represents a stable that is in fine form.

Happie Days may well have won a similar race at this track recently but for some poor jumping late on. Having travelled into the race really easily he just wasn’t able to burn off his rivals. If his trainer has been able to iron out those problems since then he will take plenty of beating now.

Ballyshannon Rose undoubtedly started the season a well-handicapped mare but the assessor may well have caught up with her now. Paddy Kennedy replaces a 7lb claimer and she is now 18lb higher then when winning on her penultimate start.

Shattered Love ran below par when reverting to hurdles last time but had easily won a similar race to this at Clonmel on her previous start. A former Grade 1 winner over fences, she is the class act in this field, so provided she is back to her best form then she can add to her impressive career record.

Salsaretta is somewhat of an unknown quantity, having won four of her five starts over fences and falling early in the other. She has more scope for improvement than any of her rivals and Paul Townend chose her over a strong stablemate.

Coko Beach looks to have been found a nice opportunity to break his duck over fences. A smart hurdler last season, he has finished second twice over fences, with a hard task in Grade 1 company sandwiched in between those runs. This looks easier than previous races so he really should be able to take advantage.

Forza Milan has won over this sort of trip over flights but has always given the impression of being a stayer. Kevin Brouder will need to make this a real test of stamina if he is to get him home in front.

Ginto went into plenty of notebooks when making a winning debut in a point-to-point recently. He has been well touted for the Cheltenham Bumper so should be winning here if those aspirations are to be realised. Having avoided much tougher clashes over the Christmas period, it will be disappointing if he can’t take this contest.

Whatdeawant is the obvious danger coming from the Willie Mullins camp. The champion trainer has already produced a couple of really smart bumper horses this season so anything he runs has to be respected. If this one were to make a winning racecourse debut then he too could be a festival contender.
