1.50 RYANS CLEANING EVENT SPECIALISTS MAIDEN HURDLE 2M

Savannah Storm can get off the mark on his third outing over hurdles. He progressed from a solid fourth to Lareena at Thurles by finishing a 7½l second to the useful I Am Sailing in a Navan maiden last week. He is still open to improvement as a hurdler. He could be given most to do by the jumping newcomer Uisce Beatha who makes his first appearance since his encouraging 4l second to Daly Tiger in a Thurles bumper in November.

2.20 GLEESONS BUTCHERS NOVICE HANDICAP HURDLE 2M 4F

He is 19lbs higher than when last successful but Snugsborough Hall looks capable of notching up another success over hurdles. He travelled notably well through the race before eventually being beaten just over 1l into third by Mind’s Eye in a handicap over this trip at Leopardstown in December. A repeat of that last run would give him every chance and he is preferred to Chesterfield King who chased home Grand Partner in a 2m handicap hurdle at Leopardstown several weeks ago. Prior to that, Chesterfield King won at this track when he defeated the capable juvenile Randalls Ur Poet and the subsequent winner Monotype.

3.20 UNDERWRITING EXCHANGE NOVICE HURDLE (GRADE 2) 2M 4F

Scarpeta has progressed with every run over hurdles and looks good enough to make his mark at this level. His 17l maiden hurdle win from Cartwright reads well in light of the latter’s exploits and he turned in a fine effort at Cheltenham last time when he was beaten 8l into fourth by Samcro. That last run gives him an edge over stablemate Duc De Genievres (beaten a further 1l into fifth in that same Cheltenham race) and it earns him the vote over the Martin Pipe winner Blow By Blow.

The latter has made great strides lately as he followed a Grade 3 win at Thurles with that excellent all-the-way success at Cheltenham. Duc De Genievres also has every chance and it is worth recalling that his Cheltenham run was preceded by an excellent 5½l second to Samcro in a Leopardstown Grade 1.

3.55 BOYLESPORTS NOVICE HANDICAP CHASE (GRADE B) 2M 150YDS

A chance is taken on Bon Papa. He done plenty of racing over longer trips and was third to Shattered Love in a 3m Grade 1 in December but his three wins so far have all been at 2m. He had to settle for seventh behind Monalee last time but this represents a substantial drop in class. He certainly has the ability to win a good race over fences.

He is a hopeful choice to see off his stablemate Patricks Park who won a valuable 2m 1f handicap at Leopardstown two months ago on his second outing for Willie Mullins. Patricks Park is now 10lbs higher but should cope with that rise up the ratings and the form of that Leopardstown race wasn’t done any harm when the runner-up, Three Stars, showed up well in the Grand Annual at Cheltenham.

5.05 TATTERSALLS IRELAND GEORGE MERNAGH MEMORIAL SALES BUMPER 2M

Sizing Pottsie looked a horse of some promise when he made a winning debut in a Leopardstown four-year-old bumper just over three weeks ago. He ran out a comfortable 1¼l winner over Eagle Roque, who has been beaten since, but the manner of his success was very taking and the race was run at crawl.

He can confirm form with Whoshotthesheriff who was beaten 3l into third having gone off a well-backed favourite.

The latter should also step forward for that first run.

The Cork winner Black Tears and Pont Aven, who is one of four Willie Mullins challengers and hails from a good flat family, are among a number of other interesting contestants.
