DEAUVILLE - SATURDAY
1.30 Prix du Calvados (Group 3) 2yo fillies 7f (straight)
Kevin Ryan has an excellent chance of winning this race with Calypso Beat. She opened her account at Leicester before picking up a listed contest at Newmarket. Last time out, she was runner-up to Muraaqaba in the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes at the same track. Sivoliere looks second best. She holds Kindly Dismiss on their latest running at La Teste when winning her third race of the season. La Khaleesi should run close to Sivoliere and the Spanish-trained Santa Helena is on a hat-trick following victories at La Teste and San Sebastian.
Selection: CALYPSO BEAT
Next best: Santa Helena
DEAUVILLE - SUNDAY
2.40 Darley Prix Morny (Group 1) 2yo colts and fillies 6f (straight)
The Royal Ascot winners Hootenanny and The Wow Signal clash in the first Group 1 juvenile race in the French calendar on very different ground. They should both be involved in the finish but may be thwarted by the Aga Khan’s Ervedya who also has excellent credentials. American trainer Wesley Ward is going for back to back wins in the Morny which he took a year ago with Coolmore’s No Nay Never. They also own Hootenanny who made short work of his rivals in the Windsor Castle Stakes. He will be running over six furlongs for the first time. The Wow Signal won over the distance when he won the Group 2 Coventry Stakes with something in hand. Ervedya won the Group 3 Prix de Cabourg in style and she should again hold fourth placed Ride Like The Wind. Earlier Ervedya was over a length ahead of Malicieuse who did not like the turns when third in the Listed Prix Six Perfections. Goken won the Group 3 Prix du Bois but was slightly disappointing when fourth to Kool Kompany in the Prix Robert Papin and that is sound form.
Selection: ERVEDYA
Next best: The Wow Signal
3.10 Darley Prix Jean Romanet (Group 1) 4yo+ fillies and mares.1m 2f
Alain de Royer-Dupré must have a good chance of winning this contest with the Aga Khan’s Narniyn. She ran fourth in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and was then just caught at the end of the Markel Insurance Nassau Stakes at Goodwood. Early in the season she had beaten Ipswich in La Coupe at Longchamp. Hippy won the Group 3 Grand Prix de Vichy-Auvergne by half a length from Ipswich with Gaga A back in fourth place. Judging by her recent second in the Skybet York Stakes Secret Gesture looks bang on form. Gary Carroll is on board the Irish filly Euphrasia and a repeat of her Tattersalls Gold Cup form in May should guarantee a place. Princess Loulou was a little out of her depth in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes and Ribbons is a very consistent sort. Pollyana is lightly-raced but was third to Cirrus Des Aigles in the Prix d’Ispahan back in May. The German filly Red Lips was fourth in the Prix de l’Opera last October.
Selection: NARNIYN
Next best: Pollyana
3.40 Darley Prix Kergorlay (Group 2) 3yo+ 1m 7f
Andreas Wohler trains two of the four runners and he could greet both the winner and runner-up. Altano won the Group 1 Prix du Cadran last October and has won a Group 3 event at Hamburg before a seventh to Leading Light in the Ascot Gold Cup. His other runner Protectionist is a very consistent performer and the winner of a Group 2 at Hamburg at the end of June. The Eric Libaud-trained Fly With Me landed the Prix Vicomtesse Vigier (Group 2) back in May and was then seventh in the Prix Maurice de Nieuil. Bathyrhon has more to find in the form book in a tactical race.
Selection: PROTECTIONIST
Next best: Fly With Me
