2.20 WKD MAIDEN HURDLE 2M 2F 165YDS

Icario has filled the runner-up spot on his last four completed outings and he might now get his turn. The four-year-old has posted a number of creditable runs without any excuses and form such as his second to the useful Outspoken at Naas in February could see him succeed. In addition, he was staying on and running a very reasonable race when coming down at the last in the Fred Winter at Cheltenham last week.

Holly Flight is a fascinating opponent. This French import finished third to Apple’s Jade in a hurdle race in Vichy almost two years ago on her only previous outing. The winner’s subsequent exploits make that a striking effort.

2.50 GUINNESS RATED HURDLE 2M 2F 165YDS

This could see Sanibel Island follow up his 2m handicap hurdle success at Navan last week. On that occasion, the five-year-old scored by 3½l from Grand Partner and his performance there suggested that he could be adding to his tally in the coming weeks. The switch to better ground and a slightly longer trip shouldn’t be a problem for him. Derulo is a very dangerous rival as his last run saw him finish an excellent 1¾l fourth to Ice Cold Soul in the valuable Coral Hurdle at Leopardstown two months ago. That last run suggested that he could pick up a decent prize at some stage.

Selection: SANIBEL ISLAND

Next best: Derulo

3.20 ROADSTUD INSTILLATIONS LIMITED HANDICAP HURDLE (80-109) 2M 2F 165YDS

Kilcaragh Boy is a speculative choice. He has winning form on good ground so he can surely improve on the form of his respectable sixth to Perfect Man in a 2m6f Punchestown handicap hurdle on heavy ground last month. That was also his first completed start since September so the benefit of that run and the ground could see him step forward.

Dawerann wasn’t at his best at Tramore on New Year’s Day but his previous fourth to Concordin at Leopardstown over Christmas was a fine effort and he also won over 2m4f at Punchestown in December. Course and distance winner Mountain Kingdom is respected having warmed up for this with a spin on the flat at Dundalk last week.

Selection: KILCARAGH BOY

3.50 TOALS BOOKMAKERS ULSTER NATIONAL EBF HANDICAP CHASE 3M 4F 120YDS

She came up short in the race last year but ran better than her final seventh place would suggest and Definite Ruby can do better this time. In contrast to last year, she has the advantage of a relatively recent run which came when she landed a 2m4f handicap hurdle at Punchestown in January. The ground will suit her well and she is only 4lbs higher than when winning a decent mares’ handicap chase at the Punchestown Festival in April.

Last year’s fifth Tulsa Jack has a better chance than his recent form implies. He is a former winner of both the Midlands and Cork Nationals so this stamina test will be ideal for him. He was possibly just feeling the effects of a busy campaign on his last two starts. The top-weight, Folsom Blue, must be given every chance following his recent win in a Navan handicap chase, which was followed by a second in the Leinster National. On his best form Georges Conn would be more than capable of playing a role here.

4.20 RACING POST HANDICAP CHASE (0-102) 2M 3F 55YDS

James could add this race to the hunter chase success he recorded at this track in December 2013. Since returning from a lengthy absence this season, he has posted a couple of respectable efforts, which include a 15l second to Holeinthewall Bar at Down Royal and a recent 8l fourth to Ontopoftheworld at Navan three weeks ago. Former course winner Cerca Trova looks a threat. A dual handicap winner in the early part of last year, she returned from over a year off with an encouraging third to Peace N’ Milan at Clonmel earlier this month.

Selection: JAMES

4.50 BOARDSMILL SIRES MAIDEN HUNTERS CHASE 2M 6F 30YDS

This could see Jammin Masters build on the promise of his two starts in the point-to-point field. He followed an easy debut win at Dungarvan with a second to Suas Sios at Oldtown last month and the latter franked the form with a beginner’s chase triumph at Navan recently. Clondaw Frisby would look a threat on his hunter chase efforts this season. He was fourth to Foxrock at Down Royal in December and then filled the runner-up spot behind Island Master at Clonmel in February. After finishing third to On His Own at Tinahely before then beating Grand Jesture back at that track the following month, Need To Know looks more than good enough to take a hand in the finish.

5.20 VISIT ST PATRICK’S COUNTY (PRO/AM) FLAT RACE 2M 1F 65YDS

Dawn Shadow is put forward to build on a promising third to Dazzling Sarah in a Down Royal bumper last week. That was her first outing for three months and shaped up nicely to be beaten just over 5l. There should certainly be more to come from this daughter of King’s Theatre and with her rider’s claim taken into account she is getting a useful allowance from Coeur De Beauchene. The latter was second on his sole outing in the point-to-point field and was then beaten 15l into third when favourite for a Navan bumper earlier this month. He is a grandson of Sunday Silence so the switch to better ground will almost certainly work in his favour.

Selection: DAWN SHADOW
