TODAY’S Betfair Tingle Creek Chase is a fascinating contest, but it’s not easy to find a betting angle.

If the best Altior shows up, of course he’ll win. If the Altior who won the Game Spirit Chase in February shows up, he’ll probably win too. And we know that he goes well fresh. But he is 10 now, almost 11, and he can’t be as good as he once was. Moscow Flyer is the only horse aged older than nine to win it. Ever. It’s a strong stat. Will he be at his best? That’s the question. It’s a race for watching.

The Henry VIII Chase is also a race for watching, but it could be a race in which it is worthwhile backing Eldorado Allen too. It’s another intriguing contest, six horses who have won nine chases between them and who have collectively recorded no losses over fences.

Ga Law, who has contributed one-third of their collective total number of wins, likes to go forward. Allmankind likes to go forward, and then go forward again. You have to think that, whatever leads Dan Skelton’s horse is going too fast.

You can see why he is favourite, and front-runners do well at Sandown’s chase track, but there is a chance that the pace horses could set it up for a rival who races just behind the pace, and that could be Eldorado Allen.

Winner of his maiden hurdle at Sandown in November 2018, Colin Tizzard’s horse beat Stormy Ireland on his chasing bow at Newton Abbot in October, and he stepped forward from that last time when he won the Grade 2 Arkle Trial at Cheltenham’s November meeting.

It’s not certain that he would have beaten Gumball had that rival not fallen at the second last fence that day. The leader was still travelling well at the time, but so was Eldorado Allen. He impressed with his jumping, and the ease with which he made his ground towards the leader on the run down the hill, and he ran out an easy winner in the end after Gumball’s departure. He should step forward again from that, and the fact that he has good form over hurdles at Sandown is a positive.

Springtown Lake could also run well in the Grand Sefton Chase at Aintree. Philip Hobbs’ horse ran a big race to finish second to Modus on the Mildmay course last time, and he meets that rival on 9lb better terms.

The softer ground should suit him well, and he retains scope for progression.
