Ryan McElligott

1.40 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF MAIDEN 7F

Threeandfourpence is a tentative choice in a race confined to newcomers. This colt, who is ridden by Ryan Moore, makes notable appeal on pedigree as a War Front own-brother to a pair of Group 1-winning juveniles: Hit It A Bomb and Brave Anna. Quite a few of these take the eye on pedigree and Hazapour looks quite interesting with his yard having made a notable return to form in recent weeks. This Shamardal colt is a half-brother to three winners from an excellent middle-distance family.

2.10 GALILEO IRISH EBF FUTURITY STAKES (GROUP 2) 7F

He has met with two defeats since making a winning debut over 1m at Leopardstown but on both occasions Theobald ran with plenty of credit. His second to Actress in the Anglesey Stakes was a fine run over a trip short of his best and he lost nothing in defeat in chasing home The Pentagon in the Tyros Stakes last time.

A repeat of either effort could suffice and he is preferred to Camelback. The latter’s behaviour in the preliminaries at Naas last time was concerning but his display in beating Strike For Freedom and Rostropovich couldn’t be faulted and he is a colt of some talent.

Selection: THEOBALD

2.45 QATAR RACING AND EQUESTRIAN CLUB CURRAGH STAKES (GROUP 3) 5F

Goodthingstaketime gets a hopeful vote. She comes into this as a twice-raced maiden but showed a lot of promise in a 6f maiden here last month when only just losing out the subsequent winner Fleet Review. Her effort there suggested that she would cope with coming back in trip and she might tolerate an easing in the ground better than some of her rivals.

True Blue Moon wasn’t at his best in the Railway Stakes last time but is already a stakes winner at this trip. He also showed up well when beaten just under 4l by Sioux Nation in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot.

3.20 BREST CANCER RESEARCH DEBUTANTE STAKES (GROUP 2) 7F

This looks a terrific edition of the race and September is taken to stay unbeaten. She was an impressive 7f maiden winner on slow ground at Leopardstown two months ago and then followed-up in good style in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot where she defeated Nyaleti, who has since franked the form in some style. She has lots to fear from her stablemate Happily who was an utterly dominant 5l winner of the Group 3 Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown. She too looks a top-class juvenile filly.

Selection: SEPTEMBER

3.55 QATAR AIRWAYS ROYAL WHIP STAKES (GROUP 3) 1M2F

Qatari Hunter hasn’t run for almost a year but his progression last year was striking and he could well be good enough to make his mark at this level.

After winning four handicaps in a row, he stepped up to pattern level and showed up well when finishing fourth in Group 3 contests won by Ulysses and Long Island Sound. His absence from the track is a concern but he is preferred to Reckless Gold whose chances would be aided by any easing in the ground.

Reckless Gold’s third in the Silver Stakes and sixth in the Tattersalls Gold Cup both indicate that he can mount a strong challenge for victory.

4.30 DEREK O’SULLIVAN MEMORIAL APPRENTICE HANDICAP (50-70) 1M2F

This could go to Storm Ranger. He is 12lbs higher than when scoring at Tipperary earlier in the season but he has been holding his form well since then and, last week, caught the eye with a decidedly unlucky seventh in a Leopardstown handicap won by Delaire.

He is preferred to Kandahari who returned to form when getting up late on to defeat No Way Jack in an extended 1m1f handicap at Gowran during the week.

Selection: STORM RANGER

5.00 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF FILLIES HANDICAP 1M4F

Pearl Of The West can continue her progression. After winning a Gowran maiden early last month, she followed up in style in a 1m4f handicap at Galway, dominating from the front en route to a resounding 3¾l triumph over Mr Adjudicator. She is now 10lbs higher but that may not be enough to prevent her from following up at the expense of Detailed who looked somewhat unlucky when beaten ½l by Athenry Boy at Galway.

That effort followed a victory at Ballinrobe and this filly looks to be progressing nicely.

Selection: PEARL OF THE WEST

Next best: Detailed

5.30 BREAT CANCER RESEARCH HANDICAP (45-70) 6F 63YDS

A low draw is something of a concern for A Likely Story but he has been running quite well lately and his turn won’t be long in coming. He was beaten just over 1½l into seventh behind Alans Pride over 6f here last week, when he was unlucky not to finish closer, and prior to that he was second to Tom Dooley at Fairyhouse. Furthermore, he has run well on slow ground in the past.

He is taken to see off Little White Owl who was just in front of him in that Curragh race. She has a good draw to aid her cause.

Selection: A LIKELY STORY
