1.50 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF MAIDEN 7F
Liberatio might be the answer having got his career off to a bright start by finishing a 4l sixth to Landfall in a maiden over this course and distance last month. This son of Invincible Spirit should be all the better for that initial outing and has plenty of room for improvement. He is chosen ahead of Finn McCool, who Ryan Moore rides ahead of stablemate The Eagle.
Finn McCool must improve on what he has shown so far, but it was interesting that he was pitched into a Group 1 last time. Treaty Of Vienna is an interesting newcomer as a son of New Approach and of a French listed winner.
Selection: LIBERATIO
Next best: Finn McCool
2.20 C.L. & M.F. WELD PARK STAKES (GROUP 3) 7F
On her three starts to date, Eziyra has shown a good level of form and she deserves to get her turn at this level. At Galway this Teofilo filly produced a smart effort to see off Hydrangea and she showed a fine attitude when losing out by just a neck to Sea Of Grace in a 1m Group 3 here last month. The drop back in trip isn’t a concern for her and she is chosen ahead of Godolphin’s Grecian Light. The latter comes here off a fine ¾l second to Rich Legacy in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster earlier in the month. Wild Irish Rose shaped better than the results of her first two runs would suggest and a decent showing from her wouldn’t be a surprise.
Selection: EZIYRA
Next best: Grecian Light
2.50 RENAISSANCE STAKES (GROUP 3) 6F
In Salutem is a speculative choice. This very experienced gelding looks to be on the upgrade this season and he has progressed from handicaps to hold his own in decent company on his last two outings. His penultimate second to The Happy Prince in a Navan conditions race was a solid run and so was his 3¼l fifth to Ardhoomey in a Group 2 here two weeks ago when he shaped better than the final result might suggest.
He is chosen to reverse Navan form with The Happy Prince, who has since run very well to finish a neck second to Breton Rock in a 7f Group 2 at Doncaster. Fort Del Oro and Flight Risk are respected. They are both capable of better than they showed last time and the slow ground will hold no fears for them.
Selection: IN SALUTEM
Next best: The Happy Prince
3.25 JUDDMONTE BERESFORD STAKES (GROUP 2) 1M
This can see the potentially top-class Capri continue Aidan O’Brien’s domination of the race. The Galileo colt was a commanding winner of a useful listed race at Tipperary last month and he has shown that slow ground will be no problem for him.
In addition, the form of his stylish maiden success at Galway received quite a boost last week when the runner-up, Rekindling, won a useful mile maiden at Gowran. Capri may have most to fear from stablemate Exemplar, who won a Galway maiden by 5l last time having previously run very well to finish a ¾l second to the subsequent Group 3 winner Landfall in a 7f maiden at this track. Firey Speech has progressed well with racing and is respected on his solid second to Landfall in that Leopardstown Group 3 two weeks ago.
Selection: CAPRI
Next best: Exemplar
3.55 MANGUARD PLUS AMATEUR RIDERS DERBY (Q.R.) HANDICAP (50-85) 1M 4F
Hint Of Frost has progressed well since defeating his own age group in a 1m 2f handicap at Navan in May. He won again when stepped up to this trip at Tipperary last month and then showed that slow ground was no problem at all when chasing home the capable Xebec in a handicap over this trip at Bellewstown.
He could yet have more to offer and he is preferred to course and distance winner Melanna. The latter’s winning sequence came to an end when she had to settle for fourth in a 1m4f premier handicap at Listowel last week but it could be unwise to assume that her progression has tapered off. The very useful dual-purpose runner Time For Mabel must have every chance as his flat efforts would suggest that he is quite capable of making his mark in a handicap of this nature. Elm Grove is another to bear in mind and would be well served by another further easing in the ground.
Selection: HINT OF FROST
Next best: Melanna
4.30 MONGEY COMMUNICATIONS JOE MCGRATH HANDICAP 6F
He has done nothing but improve over the course of the last year and Tithonus can make it six wins from his last nine starts. He has risen 28lbs in the weights in that time but is more than keeping pace with the increase. A versatile sort in terms of ground and trip, he has quite a reasonable draw and the step back up to this trip, having won over 5f last time, should suit him well. Master Speaker endured another luckless run last time when a close sixth to New Bidder. He is more than good enough to make his mark at this level and should again go close. Downforce was a good fourth in that same premier handicap won by New Bidder and should again be thereabouts.
Selection: TITHONUS
Next best: Downforce
5.05 SYCAMORE LODGE EQUINE HOSPITAL LOUGHBROWN STAKES (LISTED) 2M
Twilight Payment looks well equipped for the demands of this race. This three-year-old has progressed nicely this season and his third in Royal Ascot’s Queen’s Vase indicated that this trip suits him well. In addition, he comes here off a career best effort which saw him finish second to Order Of St George in a 1m6f Group 3 here last month. That effort earns him the vote over Forgotten Rules, who hasn’t run for almost a year. A Group 2 winner and third in last year’s Gold Cup at Ascot, Forgotten Rules is a top-notch stayer at his best and can surely challenge strongly for victory despite his absence.
Selection: TWILIGHT PAYMENT
Next best: Forgotten Rules
5.35 DUBLIN COACH HANDICAP 2M
Katiymann wasn’t able to land a telling blow in a 1m 2f premier handicap here two weeks ago but he was only beaten 4l into 11th and he is worth another chance. The Galway maiden winner’s two handicap starts have come in premier handicaps and he ran respectably over this course and distance when beaten just over 5l into ninth in last month’s Cambridgeshire. He could well take a step forward now that he drops in grade. Texas Rock has been running well lately and comes here off a decent effort which saw him finish sixth in the Cambridgeshire.
He should again be involved. Top-weight Castle Guest must also have every chance following his creditable showing over 1m 2f on Irish Champions Weekend.
Selection: KATIYMANN
Next best: Texas Rock
