REST OF THE CARD
2.00 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF MAIDEN 5F
Brick By Brick has a good opportunity to get off the mark. A runner-up in three of his four starts to date, this gelding suffered last gasp defeats in 5f maidens at Bellewstown and Naas on his most recent outings. At the first-named venue he was just denied by Golden Spell, while his debut ½l second to Romanised also represents good form and he should take beating if running to that level.
Betsey Trotter is an interesting newcomer as she was declared to make her debut at Group 3 level last month. This speedily bred daughter of Camacho has a decent draw to aid her cause and it wouldn’t come as any surprise to see her show up well.
Selection: BRICK BY BRICK
Next best: Betsey Trotter
2.30 ANGLESEY LODGE EQUINE HOSPITAL IRISH EBF MAIDEN 1M
Swiss Cottage made a highly encouraging beginning on his debut at the start of the week, when he was beaten just over 5l into fifth by Riyazan in a 7f maiden at this track. The Swiss Spirit colt looked quite green through the first half of the race but he stayed on in very taking fashion in the closing stages and he looks a colt of some promise.
Mendelssohn was unable to make an impression in the maiden won by The Pentagon here last month, finishing eighth, but his yard’s juveniles tend to progress very well from their first runs and he could easily emerge as leading contender. The King is related to a number of very smart winners and he is a newcomer of substantial interest.
Selection: SWISS COTTAGE
Next best: Mendelssohn
3.00 LODER IRISH EBF FILLIES RACE 7F
Sizzling has run to a good standard on her three outings so far and she is entitled to take all the beating. On her debut she was a fine third to Happily over this course and distance and she looked somewhat unlucky at Galway last week when she finished well from off the pace to be beaten just over 1l into third by Shekiba.
Her biggest threat could come from Uluru Park who made her debut in the same maiden won by Happily and showed promise to be beaten less than 5l into fifth. Punked was a place behind Uluru Park on her debut and followed that run with a respectable fourth to Ballet Shoes in a 1m maiden here last month.
Selection: SIZZLING
Next best: Uluru Park
4.10 AT THE RACES PHOENIX SPRINT STAKES (GROUP 3) 6F
A speculative vote goes to Koropick who is easily forgiven his latest effort at Newbury when the soft ground wouldn’t have been in his favour. Prior to that, he won a Group 3 at Newcastle and his previous effort at Sandown saw him finish a fine second to the emerging sprinting star Battaash.
Kimberella was a close third behind Koropick at Newcastle and he followed that with a stakes race triumph at Chester. He too must have every chance. Gordon Lord Byron has put together a number of decent efforts this season and, despite his Group 2 penalty, he should be closely involved. Also worth a mention is Mr Scarlet who remains a sprinter of some promise and he comes here off a very creditable fifth to Caravaggio in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.
Selection: KOROPICK
Next best: Kimberella
4.40 MONGEY COMMUNICATIONS APPRENTICE HANDICAP (50-80) 5F
Snowstar is a consistent sort and deserves to add to the Tipperary maiden victory that she recorded last month. Either side of that maiden success she has acquitted herself well in handicaps and she showed up well over this course and distance last time when finishing a close third to Ice Cold Alex. Aggression was beaten just a head by Polly Douglas last time having previously lost out to Red Sabor at Bellewstown. Those runs would suggest that he is on the cusp of another success.
Acclaia warrants consideration as she had Snowstar behind her when she was second to Oneoveryou in a 5f handicap at Cork a couple of months ago.
Selection: SNOWSTAR
Next best: Aggression
5.10 GABRIAL CURRAN MEMORIAL HANDICAP 1M
Following a series of good efforts in premier handicaps, Windsor Beach can take advantage of a drop in class. Last week the five-year-old showed up well to finish fifth to Riven Light at Galway and, prior to that, he reached the frame in quality contests won by Tandem and Sea Wolf. That level of form entitles him to take beating and he is preferred to the relatively lightly raced St Gallen who showed definite signs of a return to form when chasing home Secret Wizard in a rated race at Killarney last month.
Selection: WINDSOR BEACH
Next best: St Gallen
