3.55 Paddy Power Pretty Polly Stakes (Group 1) 1m 2f

Carolina Jetstream: Outran her odds when sixth in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes 10 days ago, as she did when runner-up in the Lanwades Stud Stakes here a month ago. Dam won over this trip but her sire Pinatubo is a source of speed

Estrange: Pair of group wins and two Group 1 placings came over a mile and a half, while last month’s commanding Group 3 success came over a mile and three furlongs. Did win a listed race and her maiden as a three-year-old over this trip though

Nyra: Group 3 winner and second in the German Oaks over a furlong further last year. Second in the Munster Oaks on her second start for this yard and needs to improve again to figure here

One Look: Three stakes wins include a Group 3 over course and distance. Will improve from last month’s return when fourth over an inadequate mile in the Lanwades Stud Stakes

Qilin Queen: Listed winner over this trip and Group 2 winner over a mile and a half. Should come on from last month’s seasonal return when fourth of five in the Prix Aga Khan IV

Red Letter: Dual stakes winner has run fine races in defeat on both starts this year, most recently getting within three parts of a length of See The Fire in a York Group 2

Wemightakedlongway: Visors employed to bring last year’s Irish Oaks runner-up back to her best, following three below-par efforts this term

Beautify: Moyglare Stud Stakes second has failed to make an impression in two starts this season. Likely to appreciate this step up in trip, as her dam won the Munster Oaks

Thundering On: Impressed over this trip in the Salsabil Stakes before running out a commanding winner of the Epsom Oaks. Runner-up Legacy Link didn’t help the form at Royal Ascot, but this filly looked a cut above. Dam won the 2021 running for connections

Venetian Lace: Unsuited by good to soft ground at Epsom, she previously finished a fine third in the 1000 Guineas on her first start since taking second in the Fillies’ Mile

Verdict:

The 12lb weight-for-age penalty is among a whole host of elements to consider as the three-year-olds take on their elders.

As impressive as Thundering On was at Epsom, the manner in which she finished suggests that she is better over a mile and half, and the same could be said for Estrange.

One Look and Red Letter’s form over this trip appeals, with the former’s third in last year’s Prix de l’Opera suggests she’s the classier of the pair.

This could be the ideal trip for each-way contender Venetian Lace, who is worth taking another chance on.
