REST OF THE CARD

3.10 CLUB GODOLPHIN IRISH EBF MAIDEN 7F

Mendelssohn makes notable appeal on pedigree and, while he lacks the advantage of a previous outing, he could make a winning start to his career. This son of Scat Daddy is a half-brother to the brilliant multiple Grade 1-winning filly Beholder to and Into Mischief, who was a top-flight winner as a juvenile.

He is chosen ahead of the useful Medal Of Honour who progressed well from his debut to finish third to Camelback in a Leopardstown and last time out he again showed up well when taking second behind Rostropovich in a Gowran Park maiden.

The Group 1 entrant Joust is interesting as a half-brother to the Group 3 scorer Heeraat and the stakes-winning juvenile Ambiance.

Selection: MENDELSSOHN

Next best: Medal Of Honour

3.45 K CLUB HANDICAP 7F

He has often reserved his best for this course and distance and Have A Nice Day could be the one to side with. A four-time winner over this 7f, he did win at Naas earlier in the season and has since since posted some respectable efforts in defeat.

He probably found 6f on the sharp side when sixth to Enter The Red on Derby weekend but he was only beaten 2l there and back over this trip he commands the utmost respect. Fountain was not at his best at Limerick last time but that run came just a day after he landed a 7f handicap at Fairyhouse in good style. The manner of that Fairyhouse triumph suggested that he could be a handicapper on the up and he is easily forgiven his run at Limerick.

Selection: HAVE A NICE DAY

4.20 TOTE SCURRY HANDICAP 6F 63YDS

Celebration is a hopeful choice. He made a winning debut for this yard when scoring over 5f at Navan in May and he showed up well in the Rockingham Handicap a fortnight ago when coming home well over the last furlong to be beaten less than 1l into sixth by Tithonus. He has never won beyond 5f but his finishing effort in the Rockingham suggested that he would be well worth a try at this trip.

Tithonus picked up a mere 4lbs for coming out on top in a blanket finish to the Rockingham. This most versatile of horses has crept up to a career high mark of 90 but this trip could be even more suitable than the 5f he won over last time.

Normandy Barriere heads the English challenge. He was a very respectable ninth in the Wokingham at Ascot last time having previously won a good sprint handicap at that track and he looks a very solid contender. Of the others, Ma Fee Heela and Tobacco Bay could both be given a chance on their recent displays.

Selection: CELEBRATION

Next best: Tithonus

4.50 JEBEL ALI SILVER JUBILEE ANGLESEY STAKES (GROUP 3) 6F 63YDS

He sets a strong standard on form and Brother Bear can get back to winning ways following a fine effort in the Coventry Stakes at Ascot where he was beaten just over ½l into fourth. He didn’t help his cause at Ascot by edging left in the closing stages and certainly deserved to be closer at the finish. Previously, he defeated Sioux Nation to win a Leopardstown maiden and he dominated the Marble Hill Stakes here on Guineas weekend.

Treasuring had to settle for eighth in the Queen Mary at Ascot but she did run quite respectably and can show up well here. Actress is respected as she turns out nine days after her neck second to Sirici in a Tipperary stakes race.

Commander Grigio is surely better than he showed in the Railway Stakes, while Theobald is a fascinating runner. He drops sharply in trip after making a winning debut over 1m last month.

Selection: BROTHER BEAR

5.20 FRIARSTOWN STUD SAPPHIRE STAKES (GROUP 2) 5F

Marsha should take all the beating. Last season’s Prix de l’Abbaye heroine has made a bright start to the current campaign, winning the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket before running a fine third to Lady Aurelia in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot. That level of form looks to be put her some way in advance of today’s rivals.

She could have most to fear from her tremendously quick compatriot Caspian Prince. He has won a truly remarkable three editions of the Dash at Epsom and also set a track record when landing the Mercury Stakes in trail-blazing style at Dundalk last October.

Selection: MARSHA

Next best: Caspian Prince

6.30 BOODLES LADIES DERBY HANDICAP 1M 4F

He wasn’t at his best in a premier handicap here a couple of weeks ago but Spruce Meadows would have a major chance on his two previous efforts. On his penultimate outing he looked unlucky when beaten a neck by Moonmeister in a premier handicap over 1m4f at Cork and before that he chased home the subsequent stakes winner Glamorous Approach in a well-contested handicap over this course and distance.

He is chosen ahead of the lightly raced Sandstorming who was fifth in that same premier handicap on Derby weekend before scoring under today’s rider in a 1m4f amateur riders’ race at Bellewstown last week. Zeftan warrants every consideration as a dual winner of this race, while the former premier handicap winer Breathe Easy is interesting now that he tries this trip.

Selection: SPRUCE MEADOWS

Next best: Sandstorming

7.00 HEFFERNAN TYRES MAIDEN 1M 4F

Air Supremacy gets the vote after starting his career with a pair of runner-up finishes. On Derby weekend he was beaten 1¼l by Cannonball in a 1m2f maiden and last week he was just touched off by Zanjabeel over this trip at Bellewstown. He didn’t enjoy the best of runs at Bellewstown and can be rated better than the bare result there.

Ringside Support was over 4l behind Air Supremacy when he took fourth in the Cannonball maiden when he was making his debut. He looks the biggest danger to the selection.

Selection: AIR SUPREMACY
