2.10 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF MAIDEN 6F

Decrypt is chosen in the expectation that he will build on a highly encouraging debut over this course and distance last month. On that occasion the Dark Angel colt didn’t help his cause with a slow start but he recovered well to finish second to Indigo Balance. His performance there suggested that he would take plenty of beating in a similar maiden.

He is preferred to another once-raced colt, Invincible Karma, who finished third to Recon Mission over five furlongs here last month but shaped up quite nicely to be beaten just over three lengths. The first two from that race have since been well held at listed level but the benefit of that initial experience coupled with this longer trip will certainly work in the son of Invincible Spirit’s favour.

Cardini is one of three runners for Aidan O’Brien and this Magician colt can be expected to make good progress from his debut eighth behind Indigo Balance.

Althib has shown enough on his last two outings to suggest that he’ll be able to make his mark in handicaps and he is a hopeful choice in an open race. He showed up well at Gowran over seven furlongs last week, when chasing home the subsequent winner Pedisnap, and prior to that he ran well in a six-furlong handicap at Cork to finish a close third to Count Of Carabass.

La Baule looks one of the less obvious candidates but first-time blinkers and a switch to quick ground could aid her cause considerably. On her debut last season she ran better than her final position would suggest in a strong seven-furlong Leopardstown maiden won by Lightening Quick. She has run on testing ground since then and today’s going could suit her far better.

Polly Douglas, who won three times last season, is another likely contender, as is the top-weight, Bay Of Skaill.

Selection: ALTHIB

Oneoveryou could take the beating. This ultra-consistent mare, who last finished outside the first four just under a year ago, was in excellent form at Dundalk over the winter and got her turf campaign off to a bright start with a second to Blue Uluru at Navan last month. Time could show that Oneoveryou faced a very difficult task against that Ger Lyons-trained colt and conditions look ideal for her to notch up the eighth success of her career.

She may have most to fear from Nigg Bay who bolted up at Navan last weekend when coming from last to first to beat Early Call. Nigg Bay had more to spare than the three-quarter length winning margin would suggest and a 9lb hike may not prevent him from getting closely involved.

Snowstar is respected despite having top-weight but she is held by Oneoveryou on their recent Navan meeting.

A significant weight concession from his elders gives Theobald a good opportunity to register his first success at stakes level. The Teofilo colt has had to settle for seventh on his last two starts but they came in a decent edition of the Derrinstown Derby Trial and when beaten just under 10l by Romanised in the Irish 2,000 Guineas. The return to this distance should suit him, he wears a tongue tie for the first time, and form such as his runner-up finishes in last season’s Tyros and Anglesey Stakes would suggest that he is up to making his mark at this level.

Mustajeer is well clear of his rivals on ratings having been hit with a 12lb hike for his close fourth to Cliffs Of Moher in last month’s Group 2 Mooresbridge Stakes. He looks more than good enough to make his mark in stakes company but he might prefer slower ground.

Tennessee Wildcat makes a quick return following his fourth in Thursday’s Glencairn Stakes. This longer trip could help him and he is at his most dangerous in small fields on quick ground.

Alcatraz can continue a superb season for Richard O’Brien. He hasn’t won a race for three years but there has been sufficient promise in his efforts this term to suggest that he can add to his sole success.

This six-year-old seems to handle most types of ground and the way in which he finished off over a mile at Cork last month, when second to Ecoeye, would suggest that he is well worth a try at this trip. Furthermore, he didn’t run at all badly when sixth to Meagher’s Flag at Gowran on Monday, in a race that certainly did not work to the advantage of those that were held up off the pace.

He may have most to fear from Aared who won a decent handicap over this course and distance last month. Aared is now 8lbs higher and takes his chance off the highest rating of his career. Bumbasina, who did well to finish fifth to Aared, and Captain Cat, another representing O’Brien, are other likely contenders.

5.05 CROSS’ SUPERVALU SUPPORTING NEWBRIDGE PARISH HANDICAP 2M

He has put together some solid efforts in defeat lately and Jan Van Eyck could now get his turn following a heartening display at Navan last weekend. He was beaten just one length into third by Constancio at Navan but the manner in which he finished out his race over a stiff mile and five furlongs would suggest that this longer trip will play to his strengths. The quick ground also looks ideal.

His biggest danger could come from Nelson Road who possibly found a mile and five a little on the sharp side at Leopardstown last time and also had to contend with a poor draw. His previous second to stablemate Emperor Waltz in a two-mile, one-furlong Killarney handicap is a good run and would put him in with a leading chance.

Rashaan reverts to the flat following a couple of second-place finishes over fences. He commands respect but has to defy a career-high mark and to concede upwards of 15lbs to each of his rivals.

Latrobe has been found an excellent opportunity to register his first success. This 104-rated colt has shown a very smart level of form in his three runs to date, headed by a second to Platinum Warrior in the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes last time out. That efforts put him well ahead of these rivals but so too does his second to the smart Hunting Horn in a 10-furlong maiden at Naas in April. It will be a major surprise if he meets with defeat.

Baliyad looks his biggest danger having shown definite promise when seventh in a Navan maiden won by Broad Street last month. The form of that race is already working out as it has produced two subsequent winners and there is certainly more to come from this Sea The Stars colt.

Selection: LATROBE
