Ronnie’s Rascal, who kept on well towards the finish when third here on debut, has to be a live contender. With the benefit of that previous experience, the Willie Mullins-trained filly looks the one to beat.

Sent off favourite for that aforementioned contest, Infinity Success travelled well before greenness set in. Declan Queally’s filly might be capable of improvement in the first-time blinkers.

Runner-up to a highly regarded sort here recently, Grey Jude holds strong claims. The form of that particular contest has already been well advertised and, the Connor King-trained gelding should be all the better for that initial experience over hurdles.

Master Haku, who caught the eye with his finishing effort in that same race, has to be respected. Gordon Elliott’s gelding made a bad mistake early on but gradually worked his way back into contention to take minor honours.

SELECTION: GREY JUDE

Smart bumper horse Sortudo should take beating. A dual winner last term, the son of Authorized finished a highly creditable seventh in the Cheltenham bumper. The form of his final start when landing a Fairyhouse bumper has been well franked by the runner-up.

The Pat Flynn-trained Whatsanotheryear brings a fair standard to the table. Although yet to win from three starts, the six-year-old has run some decent races, including when second at Clonmel last December.

Former course and distance winner Wardens Whisper has every chance. Third at Galway recently, the Philip Rothwell-trained gelding was still very much in contention when a mistake at the second last cost him all chance. If he can produce an error-free round here, the six-year-old has to be a contender.

Bannow Blaze built on a couple of promising efforts when opening his account at Wexford last time. Runner-up at Gowran on his previous start, the Jonathan Fogarty-trained gelding had also run well here in August.

Midnight Our Fred catches the eye off a hurdle rating some 24lb below his chase mark. Runner-up in the Paddy Power Chase last Christmas, the Johnny Flavin-trained gelding was pulled up at the Cheltenham Festival on his final start of the campaign.

A winner on his debut for Emmet Mullins back in March, Darcy’s Friend has subsequently improved since going chasing. Back over the smaller obstacles, the son of Elusive Pimpernel has to be given maximum respect.

SELECTION: MIDNIGHT OUR FRED

Grade 1 winner Jade De Grugy should win this before having her sights raised. Successful on five of her seven starts over hurdles, the Willie Mullins-trained mare has the potential to go right to the top over fences.

The Big Westerner rates a serious threat. A former point-to-point winner, the Henry De Bromhead trained mare landed a Grade 2 victory over hurdles last Christmas, before subsequently finishing second in the Grade 1 Albert Bartlett.

SELECTION: JADE DE GRUGY

Next Best: The Big Westerner

A horse that tends to run well fresh, the Stuart Crawford-trained O’Toole can strike on his return. A winner over hurdles at Ayr, the Mahler gelding had previously finished second in a Grade 2 chase at Wetherby. He can make the long trek south worthwhile for his trainer.

Iceberg Theory could be nicely handicapped off a mark of 120. A beginners’ chase winner at Limerick, the runner-up in that contest is now rated 14lb higher. The Paul Nolan-trained gelding has to enter calculations if fit and ready after an absence.

SELECTION: O’TOOLE

Next Best: Iceberg Theory

Fourth at Naas on his chasing debut, Supreme Jet should be capable of improvement. A winner of his only point-to-point, the Oliver McKiernan-trained nine-year-old was twice victorious over hurdles.

Three times successful between the flags, the Shark Hanlon-trained Hitak was an impressive winner over hurdles here last season. While yet to add to that victory over fences, the eight-year-old sets a fair standard off an official rating of 124.

SELECTION: SUPREME JET
