1.15 Dermot Casey Tree Care Maiden Hurdle 2m 70yd
Mino Des Mottes was soundly beaten in the Fred Winter Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival but this is a very different assignment. He had previously shown up well against older opposition when a runner-up to his own stable companion Too Bossy For Us in a maiden hurdle at Punchestown. He wore a tongue-tie when winning in his native France and that’s back on for today. Hygge looks the biggest threat but he’ll probably need to improve on a couple of academy hurdle runs at Fairyhouse and Leopardstown, and a more recent maiden hurdle effort at Navan.
SELECTION: MINO DES MOTTES

A couple of closely rated rivals, and fine money spinners, should be fighting this out and there’s a slight preference for Ndaawi over Absurde. The pair clashed in the County Hurdle at last month’s Cheltenham Festival with promoted Galway Hurdle winner Ndaawi running the better race, still on the heels of the leaders jumping the final flight while Absurde had lost his prominent position well before then on his first start since the Melbourne Cup in November.
There certainly won’t be as much between them this time and they are both likely to finish ahead of the second Mullins runner Soir De Garde.
SELECTION: NDAAWI

The three-time French bumper winner Kimi De Mai is the one. She looked to be much improved when taking third spot in the ultra-valuable two-mile handicap hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival, running from 9lb out of the handicap proper and only finding Bowensonfire and the hot favourite I Started A Joke too good for her. Somersby Roost has a mountain to climb to match Kimi De Mai’s best form but might yet pose a bigger threat than Poetic Twist who goes jumping for the first time after two runs in bumpers.

County Final was reported to be coughing when well beaten over a much longer distance at the Dublin Racing Festival in early February and he’s easily given a chance on his earlier form this season which included a near miss in a Grade 2 novice hurdle at Limerick over Christmas and a promising handicap hurdle debut behind an improving rival in Kotkito Bello at Punchestown. Sainte Lucie was ridden along before being repeatedly denied a clear run before the final hurdle in the Martin Pipe and might have finished closer that day with better luck. But others also have the form to figure, including the less exposed Wholelotofbusiness, Coyote Spirit and top-weight Its Bilbo.

Ishan was in action for the first time in a year when pulled-up in a point-to-point at Tallow in February but showed far more when a decent third to Nolans Rocco in a handicap chase at Limerick three weeks ago. He was a very warm favourite that day and is worth chancing again as he goes back over hurdles. Onlymammycanloveme is a more consistent performer but has top-weight to contend with after winning here last time. One And Only is the other recent scorer in the field and must be considered along with Toor Khov and Jeriko De Baune, both placed here just last month.
SELECTION: ISHAN

The veteran Classic Getaway should be too strong. A penalty for landing the Grade 2 Red Mills Chase at Gowran Park in February of last year is unlikely to hold him back and he ran well enough in the latest renewal of that same race when third to his own stable companion Impaire Et Passe on his latest start. Nowwhatdoyouthink is on a nice run of form and built on a good effort at Wexford to win his beginners’ chase here in November before taking second place in a Grade 3 novice chase at Thurles a month ago.
SELECTION: CLASSIC GETAWAY

Funiculi Funicula deserves a winning turn after narrowly missing out Gowran Park where he looked an unlucky loser. Hampered after the final fence, he got back into a challenging position and held every chance in the final few yards only to be pipped by the subsequent Grade 3 novice chase winner C’est Ta Chance. Both the third and fourth horses that afternoon are winners since. Wingmen finished down the field in the Jack Richards Novices’ Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival but was earlier well clear of the remainer when a 10-length runner-up to Kaid d’Authie at Fairyhouse on New Year’s Day.

Harry’s Diamond might just be up to scoring on her debut for Willie Mullins and Jody Townend who took this last year. The six-year-old is closely related to multiple winners including Dancing On My Own and could be a match for point-to-point recruits Too Hot To Trot, starting out for Henry de Bromhead after going down narrowly at Ballindenisk last November, and Ellis Redding, running now for Gavin Cromwell after a win at Punchestown in February.
SELECTION: HARRY’S DIAMOND
