2.05 LENGTHEN THE ODDS WITH BETVICTOR FILLIES MAIDEN 1M 100YDS

Alezia could be able to make a winning debut. This daughter of Dansili is entered in both the Irish 1000 Guineas and the Group 3 Blue Wind Stakes and she is a daughter of a high-class racemare in Alanza. Those credentials coupled with her yard form would indicate that she could be playing a leading role here.

She is chosen ahead of Bellakris who improved with each run last term and signed off with a creditable second to Norway in a Naas maiden in early October.

The three Ballydoyle fillies will have to improve on what they showed last time out but they could easily do so and it would be unwise to underestimate any of them. In particular, Simply Beautiful could step forward from a midfield finish in a Gowran maiden last October.

At Navan last week The Names Jock got his season off to an encouraging start by finishing a 4l second to Cuban Hope in a 1m 2f handicap. He has to contend with a drop in distance but that isn’t a major concern and his Navan effort would suggest that a three-year-old handicap is within his reach. He also has a good draw to aid his cause.

Never Rains has shown some promise on her last couple of runs at Dundalk and wasn’t beaten by too far on either occasion. There could easily be more to come from her and she hails from a yard that has gotten its season off to a bright start.

Palabres could be interesting if she returned to the form of her first two runs last season.

Tony The Gent has been running with credit lately and is off a mark that gives him a realistic chance of success as he is 7lbs lower than when last victorious. The Kodiac gelding began his year with two decent runs at Dundalk and then performed with plenty of credit in the Lincoln two weeks ago when he was beaten 7l into sixth by stablemate Karawaan.

The English import Fastar was eighth in the Lincoln but was beaten just over a dozen lengths. He could easily do better as that was his first run since last November. Gasta is a likely contender based on her second to Bobby Boy at Navan last weekend.

This could see Who’s Steph make a winning return to action. She began last season with a pair of 1000 Guineas Trial wins at Leopardstown – victories which were achieved on very different types of ground – and she looked better than ever on her last start of 2018 which saw her finish second in the Group 2 Blanford Stakes. She will take a lot of beating if coping with this longer trip, and she can see off Hazel Bay.

The latter is a maiden but she has filled the runner-up spot in two listed races already and comes here fit and well having chasing home Still Standing over 1m 2f at Naas last month.

Bongiorno ended last season with a third in a 1m 4f fillies’ listed race at Naas and she might also be able to make her presence felt.

Future Proof is fit from a juvenile hurdling campaign and could be open to progress on the flat as this will be just his sixth outing on the level. He won a mile maiden at Leopardstown this time last year, and he has come up against some quality sorts over hurdles as evidenced by placed runs against the likes of Coeur Sublime, Band Of Outlaws and Star Max.

It isn’t easy for three-year-olds against their elders at this time of year but Turnberry Isle could be quite interesting. He was unlucky not to win a Leopardstown maiden on his penultimate start but he made amends at Naas on the final day of the 2018 season and he looks a potentially smart colt.

Latchet won nicely over this trip at Leopardstown on Wednesday evening. She has been in excellent form since the start of the year and a 6lb penalty for that Leopardstown win is largely offset by her rider’s 4lb claim. She is drawn a little wider than ideal but can still deal with the threat posed by the veteran Vastonea.

The latter, who won two runnings of the Galway Mile at one stage of his career, has dropped to a rating of 63, but on several occasions last season he showed that he could yet win again so he is not one to discount.

He will need to progress on the form he showed on his comeback at Dundalk but Marshall Law should do so and this 77-rated colt is entitled to take beating on the form of his penultimate run which saw him finish third to the smart-looking Rakan in a Leopardstown maiden in October.

His biggest danger could come from Top Line Tommy who was beaten 8l into fifth by the Ballysax Stakes hopeful Tankerville in a Gowran maiden on his only outing last season. Red Sole Diva showed some promise on her debut at Dundalk in February, and this longer trip should see Kattani build on his debut eighth to Western Dawn over 6f at Naas a fortnight ago.
