GODOLPHIN and Charlie Appleby have won two Breeders’ Cup Miles in recent seasons with Modern Games (2022) and Master Of The Seas (2023) and both have come from wins in the Woodbine Mile.

The British team have had success in all of Woodbine’s Group 1s on this card in recent years and will try to scoop all three races again this evening.

Notable Speech heads the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile (10.39pm). The son of Dubawi won the 2000 Guineas and the Sussex Stakes and was third to More Than Looks in the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Del Mar last year.

The four-year-old has not won since and recently failed by a head to Diego Velazquez in the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville. He does look a class above these on that best form.

The main morning line odds opposition comes from One Stripe, one of a group of high-class South African-breds in training this season with Graham Motion, with John Velazquez in the saddle. He won Grade 1s in his home country in the L’ormarins King’s Plate and Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas at Kenilworth.

But this is his first start since March and first on the North American continent which could count against him.

Win For The Money looks a bigger danger. In Saratoga’s Grade 1 Fourstardave Sakes, he was third by two lengths against Deterministic, one of North America’s leading turf runners.

Home runner Gas Me Up (Flavien Prat/Kevin Attard) has won his last two at this track including the Grade 2 bet365 King Edward Stakes.

Two-year-olds

The Grade 1 Summer Stakes (8.54pm) for two-year-old colts, is a race that Godolphin and Appleby have won twice in the last four years, their representative is Wild Desert, a son of Too Darn Hot who was hampered when just missing out when third in the Group 3 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket.

Fozzy Stack sends over Tipperary winner Thesecretadversary (St Mark’s Basilica) with Frankie Dettori stepping in for the mount.

There are five Mark Casse juveniles in the race with three from Kevin Attard’s barn including the unbeaten Two Out Hero, both of his wins coming in impressive fashion. Miguel Clement sends the Saratoga maiden winner Teddy’s Rocket who also warrants consideration.

The Grade 1 Natalma over a mile for two-year-old fillies is the target of the unbeaten Godolphin filly Dance To The Music, who won the Group 3 Solera Stakes on her second start.

Josie Carroll’s Corsia Veloce won her maiden on a synthetic surface back in July against males and then improved on turf and stretching out in distance to win a listed race here.

The impressive Ellis Park winner Hot Mash, by Not This Time, looks one to consider for trainer John Servis. Frankie Dettori rides La Culasse for Kevin Attard.
