5:39 Acorn Stakes (Grade 1) (3yo Fillies) (Dirt) 1m

The Grade 1 action begins early with a clash of the three-year-old fillies, Kentucky Oaks winner Cathryn Sophia and Black Eyed Susan winner Go Maggie Go. Cathryn Sophia is favourite and can extend her winning run.

Selection: Cathryn Sophia

Next best: Carina Mia

6:52 Ogden Phipps Stakes (Grade 1) (4yo+ Fillies & Mares) (Dirt) 1m110y

The older mares get their turn here in a highlight mile race with multiple Grade 1 winner Curalina well fancied over fellow Grade 1 winners Cavorting, Sheer Drama, Forever Unbridled and Breeders Cup Distaff winner Stopchargingmaria who beat Curalina and Sheer Drama on that occasion.

Forever Unbridled comes with two wins this season and might prove strongest this time.

Selection: Forever Unbridled

Next best: Curalina

8:58 Longines Just a Game Stakes (Grade 1) (Turf) 1m

There is European interest here with Martin Meade’s Irish Rookie lining up in a field of 13. She was most recently second at the Curragh in a Group 2 to Devonshire. At odds over 10/1 she is worth support but may have to yield to Mark Casse’s Canadian champion Lexie Lou.

Selection: Lexie Lou

Next best: Irish Rookie

9:41 Mohegan Sun Metropolitan Handicap (Grade 1) (Dirt) 1m

The Met Mile has one of the biggest field in recent running and features two of last season’s top three-year-olds dropping back in distance.

Frosted competed in the Triple Crown races last year and was well fancied for the Dubai World Cup where he only finished fifth. He had looked good previously this season and may bounce back. Upstart won in good style before disappointing at Oaklawn but could bounce back while Stanford could be involved for Todd Pletcher.

Slone Avenue represents Jeremy Noseda.

Selection: Frosted

Next best: Stanford

10:37 Woodford Reserve Manhattan Stakes (Grade 1) (Turf) 1m2f

US turf horses are not top-class this season and former European Group 1 winner Flintshire should be different class on his first run for Chad Brown. Slumber, Big Blue Kitten and Wake Forest are all evenly matched.

Selection: Flintshire

Next best: Ironicus

11:37 Belmont Stakes (Grade 1) (Dirt) 1m4f

Preakness Stakes winner and Kentucky Derby second Exaggerator bids for the third leg of the US Triple Crown in the absence of the Derby winner Nyquist at Belmont tonight (ATR 11.37). On his third classic start in five weeks, the damning statistic is that eight of the 16 runnings of the Belmont Stakes have been won by horses who ran on Kentucky Derby weekend at Churchill Downs and came straight to the Belmont.

Five of the contenders in the 148th Belmont Stakes have been saved in the hopes of pulling off an upset, including the late finishing Suddenbreakingnews, fifth in the Derby. Only Exaggerator and Japanese runner Lani have run in all three legs of the Triple Crown this year.

Exaggerator was held up off the fast early pace in Pimlico and joined Nyquist on the bend to power clear.

Fears that a slower pace here should be negated by the extra distance and Gettysburg is in to set the pace, but Suddenbreakingnews looks suited by the longer trip.

Selection: Suddenbreakingnews

Next best: Exaggerator
