Alison Corr
What is your earliest point-to-point memory?
My brother training his first winner at Loughanmnore which was our local point-to-point.
It was a big day out for everyone because it was our first one and it was brilliant honestly.
How did you get involved with horses?
It’s in the family. Something I’ve been bred into basically!
Have you been ever been interested in anything other than horses?
I studied civil engineering. I was interested in it and it leaves a lot of doors open for me. Plan A would be to stay in the family business which is training, buying or selling horses. If it doesn’t work out, I still have my degree.
Who was your first winner?
It was a French horse in Durrow. It was a long time ago! I think I was 21 at the time. I had only just started point-to-pointing, so I was a late starter. I used to do a lot of show jumping and eventing up until I was 20 or so.
At home we do a bit of pre-training for the lads around us and I decided to get my point-to-point licence for the craic really.
By the time I got my licence, we had so much going on that I just kept at it.
I still do some show jumpingin the summer especially for Linda Courtney. She’s a big show jumper and I’d jump a few horses for her in the summertime. It keeps me right and out of trouble!
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Laid-back. God I don’t know. Confident and funny.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
I hate any number being on an uneven number. Especially the heater in the car.
What is something most people would be surprised to know about you?
I studied performing arts for my A Levels. I used to do quite a bit of acting. It was definitely something that was a bit of craic in university. I’d absolutely love to do more with it, but I’d never be good enough. I’d love to do another few plays anyways.
Is there a skill you’d like to learn?
I’d love to be able to sing. Everyone around me would love it to! I’m bloody awful, I can’t sing a note.
Who is your biggest supporter in life?
One of my main supporters, would be my brother [Stuart]. He’s the one who’s given me the most opportunities.
My mother and father are probably my biggest supporters, they haven’t missed anything. They’ve been to everything.
Is there a quote you live by?
“It could always be worse.”
What is your worst habit?
Falling asleep everywhere. It annoys people so much.
