THE Joe O’Shea-trained Road To Rome, who started the season as a maiden, won his fourth hunter chase in succession when making all to score by 34 lengths at Haydock on Saturday. He is now being quoted at 6/1 for the Foxhunter Chase at Cheltenham.

Sam Waley-Cohen came in for the ride on the nine-year-old Choisir gelding who was sent off as the 4/6 favourite in the two-and-three-quarter-mile race. Waley-Cohen also landed Wednesday’s hunter chase at Doncaster on the Paul Nicholls-trained favourite, Wonderful Charm.

Last Thursday week, Downpatrick native David Maxwell partnered his own Shantou Flyer to victory in the hunter chase at Kelso.

The nine-year-old Shantou gelding, who was retuned as the 8/15 favourite, is trained for the London-based property dealer by Richard Hobson.

INSURANCE

On the same day, Glanworth-born former conditional jockey Shane Quinlan, who now works in insurance, won the near three-mile hunter chase at Leicester on the Daniel Bourne-owned and trained Asockastar, an 11-year-old Milan gelding.

There were only three runners in last Friday week’s hunter chase at Fakenham where the honours went to the Gareth Moore-trained 1/2 favourite Risk A Fine, a 10-year-old Saffron Walden gelding who made all the running under James King.

Sam Lee came in for the winning ride in the two-and-a-half-mile hunter chase at Lingfield on Monday on the Laura Thomas-trained Full Trottle, a 10-year-old gelding by Vertical Speed.
