THE Carbery Hunt will have the stage to themselves next Sunday, May 28th, when they race for the ninth time at Inchydoney in Clonakilty Bay.

Hopefully the weather will be good – unlike on March 13th, 1977 at Corran, Waterfall when the meeting had to be abandoned after three races because of deteriorating conditions. At that stage, David McGrath had recorded a double on Greyman VI (four and five-year-old maiden) and Take It Easy VI (open nomination race).

There were no such problems at Kilpatrick, Bandon on April 12th, 1987 when Pat Healy, who rode four seconds on the six-race card, won the open lightweight on Coal Grey, Robert Tyner landed the four and five-year-old maiden on Over The Heath and Roger Hurley landed the concluding Coolmore & Grange Studs qualifier on Take The Blame who carried 12st 7lb.

FEHILY TREBLE

At Innishannon 10 years later, Noel Fehily recorded a treble which was completed in the concluding four and five-year-old maiden on the 6/4 favourite Step In Line who was having his second start. Fehily was denied a four-timer in the open when the similarly-priced McFepend went down by a head to the 5/4 favourite Irene’s Call who initiated a double for her rider, Kevin O’Sullivan.

On Saturday, May 26th, 2007 at Clonakilty, James Jenkins brought up a double in the winners of one on Bealaha Bridge while Colman Sweeney won the three-runner open on Sabrina Maguire’s 1/6 chance Killultagh Thunder.
