THE Premier Harriers are holding their annual point-to-point at Horse And Jockey next Sunday and, ahead of the Cheltenham Festival, are hoping their four-year-old maiden produces a Gold Cup winner like War Of Attrition who made his debut at the 2003 meeting for Ger Hourigan.

Unfortunately, the Presenting gelding fell that day but he had impressed Mike Barrett’s Formcard Publications who commented in their end-of-season review: “Unlucky sort. Was well supported on his debut in two and half mile four year old maiden at Horse And Jockey. Was a desperately unlucky loser as was cantering all over the opposition when getting it all wrong at the final fence with partner Robert Widger sustaining a fractured leg in the process. Seems to possess buckets of pace and has the makings of a nice ‘park’ prospect.”

A potential champion could well run in one of races but there will be a reigning title-holder on view throughout the afternoon as huntsman Tom Shanahan’s Kilkarney Hero is due to carry one of the mounted stewards. At the Dublin Horse Show last August, the 2008 Crannagh Hero gelding was crowned champion sportsman (amateur) hunter under Orla McKevitt who has been hunting the grey Irish Draught all season.
